Anibal Sanchez tries to salvage one game, avoid sweep against Angels.
The Tigers acquired right-hander Anibal Sanchez in late July to bolster the back end of their rotation in preparation for a second-half run.
Today should be a pretty telling sign if the trade paid off.
Sanchez looks to right Detroit's ship and salvage one game in its three-game series against the Angels. First pitch is scheduled for 3:35 p.m.
Sanchez has been pitching lights out lately, going 1-1 with a 0.92 ERA over his last three starts. He gave up two unearned runs in six innings of Monday's 3-2 loss.
With right-hander Zack Greinke set to start for the Angels, Tigers manager Jim Leyland will use Andy Dirks and Brennan Boesch in the outfield corners. Dirks is batting second and Boesch is batting sixth behind designated hitter Delmon Young.
