Alex Avila is not in the starting lineup. Gerald Laird gets the start behind the plate. No update yet on Avila’s status.
Meanwhile, after the buzz surrounding Brennan Boesch’s ill-fated start over Andy Dirks on Monday, he’s out of the lineup tonight. Quintin Berry starts in left and bats second. Andy Dirks moves over to right and bats sixth, where Boesch normally would be batting.

Leyland said Dotel and Alburquerque not available tonight, rest of bullpen fine.

Max Scherzer looks to add to strikeout total; Quintin Berry in for Brennan Boesch.
Max Scherzer has been racking up the strikeouts this season. If history is any indication, Scherzer could tack on several more strikeouts Tuesday night when he faces the Oakland A's.
Scherzer has recorded 31 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched in three career starts against the Oakland A's. That's an average of 16.41 strikeouts per nine innings. He is averaging 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings this season and 9.3 per nine innings for his career.
Scherzer leads the majors with 220 strikeouts. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings May 10 in a 10-6 win over the A's. He struck out nine in that game.
The A's lead the majors in strikeouts with 1,232 this season. That is 225 times more than Tigers hitters have struck out.
The A's are the hottest team in baseball. They have won 22 of their past 29 games and have the second-best record in the American League. They will start rookie A.J. Griffin (6-0, 1.94 ERA).
Quintin Berry will start in left field and Andy Dirks in right field. Brennan Boesch, who went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Monday in a 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox, is not in the starting lineup.
Alex Avila is not in the lineup. He was unavailable for the game Monday after he was hurt in a collision with Prince Fielder during the game Sunday in Cleveland.

Alex Avila misses second straight game.
Catcher Alex Avila is still out of the Tigers lineup, following his collision with first baseman Prince Fielder on Sunday in Cleveland.
Avila suffered a sprained jaw and left the game, and did not play in Monday's makeup game in Chicago. The Tigers say Avila did not suffer a concussion when he collided with Fielder as they converged on a foul popup.
Gerald Laird will start behind the plate Tuesday night as the Tigers open a three-game series against Oakland at Comerica Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
