Tigers vs. Athletics preview: Wily Peralta?s resurgence faces a tough task.
The right-hander has been surprisingly effective, but the Tigers will need him at his best to handle a disciplined A?s lineup.

?The player development system..is truly the backbone of an organization. I?m a little biased because I used to be in a player development system, but it?s nearly impossible to win at this level w/out a good system.? A J Hinch. Think he had anything to do w/yesterday's changes?

Some probably thought Josh Harrison's career was over after being released by the Detroit Tigers in 2019.
Quite the contrary.
The 34-year-old is hitting .287 with a .785 OPS (119 OPS+) in 143 games since leaving Detroit.
Could this have anything to do with that rag-tag team of ancient coaches Detroit had while Harrison played for them?

Other than Chris Bosio, the Tigers never officially "fire" anyone. Either contracts aren't "renewed" or in this case, the person is made a "special assistant".

Littlefield and Al Avila have a long history together. Littlefield hired Avila to be his special assistant in Pittsburgh. Al later hired Dave to come to Detroit as a scout. One week after Avila was promoted to GM, he also promoted Littlefield to a VP slot.

Kenny Graham takes over Littlefield's job on an interim basis. Tigers plan on going outside the organization for a replacement which is great news considering that the team had kept the same tight clique in the Front Office for decades. Menzin and Sartori are the exceptions.

20 AUGUST THOUGHTS.
Totally Tigers

In the blink of an eye, another month is history and we now head into the final chapter of the season for the Tigers.

It was a challenging August for the Tigers, ending the winning month streak at 3. Two 4-game losing streaks didn?t help things.

All in all, it was still a month of growth and it was not short on topics to discuss. So, let?s take a hard look at August and put the wrap on it like we always do.

Topics will be random and all over the map, the way we like them, and holdovers remain important for thoughts that need more time to simmer.

Please enjoy another monthly compilation of 20 Thoughts ? for August.

Miguel Cabrera's RBI single in the 7th inning is the 2,963rd hit of his career, tying Old Tigers Great Outfielder Sam Crawford for 34th place on the all-time hits list.
