On the same day that the Braves DFA'd former pitcher Shane Greene, let's update on who the Tigers got for trading him. Joey Wentz.

He is still trying to get back to his former self while pitching in AA. His speed is still down, hitting in the high 80's-low 90's and he has trouble locating his pitches, giving up 24 walks in 30 innings.

Studies show that full recovery from TJ is closer to 1.5 years. It's not expected that Wentz will see AAA this year given his current struggles. As a result, his earliest possible arrival in Detroit would be September 2022 if all goes well.

We know that teams tend to feed story lines to reporters in order to prepare fans for changes and help mitigate negative responses. It is standard PR. If you want to know what is about to happen, in this case, the Detroit Tigers, look at the articles being generated for clues.

It's SOP that teams keep tabs on what fans are saying on social media. This move is widely seen to tamp the increasing clamor for the Tigers to sign Carlos Correa this winter. Correa played for A. J. Hinch so fans believe he'll want to come here because of his former manager.

The Astros tried to extend Correa but failed. He is expected to want a contract of app 8+ years and $340 million. When Francisco Lindor got his 10-year, $341 mill deal, Correa was one of the first ones to call him.

Totally Tigers

Miguel Cabrera in Camden Yards:
11 HR .280/.377/.531 in 39 games.

It would be rather historical if he hits his 500th home run there. Al Kaline hit his 3000th hit at the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore on Sept 24th 1974.

They must serve beer at camden.. Crowd is extra lit up and obnoxious tonight.

Good damn it all. Communication please. Man please be ok? May it was hit to far into the gap to hear each other. May both we going full
Blast.

SEEING THE SIGNS.
Totally Tigers

We missed the clues, folks.

They were out there less than 2 weeks ago and our radar should have been turned on.

But instead, we took the stories (all in the 2 local Detroit dailies) as the typical PR fluff stuff.

So what was the story?

That Jonathan Schoop absolutely loved the Tigers and wanted to stay in Detroit. Splashed prominently in the newspapers and the message was pushed for days afterward.

You couldn?t miss it.

And then less than a week later, he signed the contract extension.

Contracts just don?t happen overnight. They take time.

None of this was spontaneous. It was all planned.

It was the successful advancement of contract talks that then pushed Schoop to do interviews on his love of the team and desire to stay.

And, quite frankly, it was a great PR move. Not just for Schoop, a fan fave, staying but for sending a message to the rest of the MLB players. Detroit is once again a desirable place to play.

It is a salvo in advance of the Hot Stove season. Reputation repair.

And a smart one.

The Tigers aren?t looking to duplicate their moves of the past when Mr. I had to overpay in order to get decent players to come to Detroit. They want any potential free agents seeing the Tigers in a whole new light.

What Schoop did was to offer a testimonial.

Ironically, missing the clues wasn?t apparent until just the other day. And it?s not really our fault.

The Tigers have been under the radar for so long that we let our detective skills wither.

But now that this organization is in the throes of awakening, we need to get back up to speed and start picking up on the clues again.

If we pay attention, the Tigers are telling us what?s coming up. What?s about to happen.

They?re even trying to shape our emotions. Our reactions.

And to control what is said in social media.

So how are they doing this?

By planting stories with their favorite mouth pieces, er, sports writers in these 2 papers. You know who they are.
