Detroit Tigers Gameday: Will Max Scherzer become AL's first 10-game winner, stifle Baltimore Orioles?

That's our best possible lineup even if Avila was healthy.

Pena has a chance to win the job with a strong performance the next couple weeks. He mashes at the plate and throws some guys out and he could be our #1 catcher going forward.

Honestly, id start squiggles or garcia over dirks right now regardless of the pitching matchup, because dirks just plain sucks right now.

On the radio they said Max could become the 1st pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1997 to start a season 10-0.

Is this the best lineup smoker could field tonight?

Almost! 8 out of 9..

Tui > Dirks

Miguel Cabrera batting .466 (34 for 73) with 8 homers and 23 RBIs in 20 home games against #Orioles since joining Tigers in 2008.

Miggy is actually having a bad month of June so far. He has 8 rbi's and 4 came on that grand slam on June 1st. He has failed to record an rbi in 7 of his last 8 games (some is manager's avoiding him). I want to see that 20 rbi streak continue. He's only hitting .261 although his OBP is still really good at .452 for the month.

Miggy has had a bad past 9 games especially. He stopped wearing the elbow pad/armor just over a week ago too. coincidence.
and I've asked a half dozen Tigers writers and no one has the answer why.

According to Elias, Scherzer is bidding to become 2nd Tigers starter to begin a season 10-0, joining George Mullin (10-0 in 1909).

Elias also added that Mullin's overall record was 11-0 to start the season, but one of his wins came in relief.

Max Scherzer: 13 straight starts of 6 K to begin season. If he reaches 14, he'd be 1st AL pitcher since Pedro Martinez in 2001.

Max's season is flying under the radar since his era is over 3 at 3.19 (13th in the AL). He leads the majors in whip a .87.

Miguel Cabrera: 3 HR in 4 games vs Orioles this season.

Miguel Cabrera clears the out-of-town scoreboard. 19th homer puts him 4 back of Chris Davis. 71st RBI puts him up double digits again.

So both teams are wondering the same thing: "Why'd we pitch to that guy?"
