what Hinch has done is amazing..mostly he has taken rookies AAAA playes a 3rd tier FA and got immense production..its tough to do that for 5 months...and under conditions of diminished workloads and injuries..quality of play has been deteriorating the past 2 weeks..

you'll generally see a cycle like this -- where a team loses on purpose for several years to accumulate as many theoretical "can't miss" prospects as they can to serve as the lone rebuild strategy--until they eventually hire a progressive manager and revamp the FO.

263-420 over 683 games .385 winning percentage just an abysmal failure of FO leadership..over 5+ seasons. yes they have high number 1 prospects to show for the futility..but besides Skubal Funkhauser (rescued by Fetter) and potentially Dingler a pretty thin payback.

Excluding H. Castro and J. Rogers, the Tigers have used 27 different pitchers. The unsung heroes of innings eaters have been Wily Peralta and Tyler Alexander. 149.1 IP, 3.92 ERA
Crucial work for a team that lost Teheran and Turnbull for the year and Boyd/Urena for lengthy stretches.

Riley Greene has just crushed LHP all year..now has a 920 OPS at AAA..

from last night; Alex Lange's biggest issue is throwing center cut FB that have just been punished..right there was a perfect example....Lange still has really spotty FB command..
Lange 4S FB has a
14.4% whiff rate and a
565 xSLG
despite a 96.2 average velocity.

Jake Rogers underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow today in Dallas, A.J. Hinch said. He'll miss rest of this season and much of next season.
Faedo, Fulmer, Turnbull, Wentz and now Rogers. Tommy John surgeries are piling up.....

A small town is crying foul as it?s factory, partially owned by Major League Baseball, is closing and the bulk of its jobs going to China. The factory makes MLB batting helmets.

I didn't know that TJ surgery was on the table for Rogers. Suddenly looking thin at Catcher

It's the Miggy and Grossman Show so far tonight.

Miggy 4 for 4 with 3 RBI,

Grossman 4 for 4 3 Runs Scored,

Tigers lead 5 - 1 bottom of the 7th inning,

Manning 3 IP 52 pitches 1 run 4 hits 4 K's.

29 hits for Miggy to get to 3000. Never thought possible this season but there's a chance.

Didn't Rogers get hurt 2 months ago? Seems like an all to familiar story with this medical staff. So now he'll miss next year after waiting 2 months to figure it out.

From what I have read, it is common practice to rest for a few months to see if it is a problem that can heal itself with rest.

Cabrera had three singles and a double, driving in three runs. After finishing Tuesday night with three consecutive base hits, Cabrera now has a career-high seven consecutive hits. His career total -- 2,971 -- is only 29 shy of 3,000.

Since May 7:
Miguel Cabrera
289/351/439
114 wRC+
30th in MLB in average.

It's been a transformational season for the Detroit Tigers in so so many ways..but currently they will still draft 11th in 2022 if the season ended today.

Lowest H/9 since they lowered the mound in '69 (150+ IP)?

The Tigers were watching Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame induction speech before today's game.
Robbie Grossman asked Miguel Cabrera: "Do you have your Hall of Fame speech ready?"

Miguel Cabrera after the awful start now has a .730 OPS on the season. MLB Average so far is .726.
Since June 1st:
.300/.356/.468
.824 OPS
I think it?s safe to say that those who screamed he was done and wanted him blasted off into the sun might have been a bit premature.

Derek Holand has thrown 24 innings since the ASB..3.00 ERA 24 SO..still struggles with RHH but damn useful..

watching Schoop play a solid 2B makes you wonder why Willi Castro played 2B all year.

Jim Leyland was at each of the last 3 games, behind home plate and taking notes. The same man who still says he doesn't believe in analytics. Considering the promotions of Sartori and Menzin, how can a team move forward successfully when there is such a stark contrast in beliefs?

Detroit Tigers' catcher, Jake Rogers will be out for most or all of the 2022 season w/TJ surgery. He was important because he was the best fit for the young pitching prospects like Skubal and Mize.

Haase is the next best fit. Still too soon to determine how well Dustin Garneau would fit in. Greiner has been the least effective. Will the Tigers go out this winter and sign a new catcher?

No Tiger in the expansion era (since 1961) has had hits in 8 consecutive at-bats, according to Elias Sports.
Miguel Cabrera will have a chance in his first AB Friday against Rays starter Michael Wacha at Comerica Park. Miguel Cabrera is 38 years old.
