Justin Verlander on mound; first pitch set for 8:30 p.m.
The Texas Rangers are a strong offensive team. But Justin Verlander has had great success against them in his career.
Verlander (12-7, 2.51 ERA) will start for the Tigers tonight in the second game of a three-game set at the Ballpark in Arlington.
First pitch is set for 8:30 p.m. due to a pregame ceremony celebrating the team's 40th anniversary. The Rangers will honor their all-time team, which features a handful of former Tigers, including catcher Ivan Rodriguez and former Tigers manager Buddy Bell.
Verlander is 7-2 with a 2.10 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings pitched in 10 career regular-season starts against the Rangers. His numbers are even better in Texas. Verlander is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three career starts at the Ballpark in Arlington.
Verlander has held batters to a .173 batting average in those three games.
Left-hander Derek Holland (7-6, 5.18 ERA) will start for the Rangers, which means Omar Infante will slide back into the second spot in the batting order. Jeff Baker will bat sixth and start in right field.

The Tigers and rangers teams will wear throwback uniforms from the 1976 season. Tigers and Rangers wearing '76 throwback uniforms tonight -- on 8/11/76 the Tigers defeated the Rangers 4-3 at Tiger Stadium. Fidrych went the distance for the Tigers in that game, which ended on a pinch-hit walk-off home run by Willie Horton.
