Tigers vs. tamparays Spring Training March 8

Tigers pitchers also scheduled to pitch:
LHP Duane Below,
LHP Darin Downs,
RHP Chris Bootcheck,
LHP Phil Coke
RHP Jose Ortega.

2 errors by Tigers infield Santiago and Mudhen in 1st 2 innings, and Fister nearly did splits to get Strieby throw and avoid another. Still scoreless.

Miguel Cabrera barely misses 2nd HR in as many days, settles for double off top of LF fence.
And Miguel Cabrera just stole 3rd with 1 out off David Price.

Cabrera on third with the double and stolen base, Avila on first with a walk, and Delmon Young with a 3 run homer.

Delmon Young with one of those fireworks-style, long-arcing homers off David Price that shows how deadly he can be against LHers.

Young's homer cleared the boardwalk and went out of the stadium into the pond. 3-0 Tigers.

No team is supposed to be hitting as well as the Tigers this early in March. Then again, there aren't a lot of lineups with this much TNT.
Clete Thomas with two very good at-bats against Price, with a ripped single to show for it. Leyland will eat that up, and should.

Another solid outing from Doug Fister. Enter 5th starter candidate Duane Below.

Fister 3 innings 0 runs 1 hit 7 groundball outs.

Ryan Strieby with a single, a double and a walk today, and a good stretch from Ryan Strieby digs out throw in dirt from Santiago, who has had a tough time making throws today for some reason.

anyone else think Strieby being showcased?

3rd hit for Miguel Cabrera, this one an RBI single scoring Santiago to make it 6-1.

henning...."Those wondering if Miguel Cabrera was overly focusing on his glove: Homer yesterday, double and two singles today. Tigers 6, Rays 1, 6th inning".

Might as well showcase him, god know he has no shot of making the Tigers as a 1B in the forseeable future.

Maybe we could trade Strieby for some infield help. Like a second baseman.

I don't think we'd get an MLB-ready 2B if that's what you're getting at. We might see a decent prospect come our way though.

His progress is blocked. Either you move him with someone else (i.e. Oliver, Smyly, etc) and get a 2B. Or, you send him back to AAA as insurance. However, he is not on the 40-man roster and it would probably take a 60-day DL for either Fielder or Cabrera for him to be put on the 40-man roster. He has value, just not with the Tigers. We have enough 1B/DH types.
