Quintin Berry and Alex Avila return to the Tigers lineup — Avila for the first time since last Sunday, Berry for the first time since Tuesday.
The Twins, meanwhile, load up on left-handed hitters against Rick Porcello, several of whom (especially Denard Span and Ben Revere) have had some success off him.

Alex Avila returns to Detroit Tigers lineup; Andy Dirks, Quintin Berry occupy outfield corners.
After missing the past four games due to the effects of a mild concussion, Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila is back behind the plate tonight.
Avila was medically cleared to play early Thursday and will bat eighth in the team's series opener against the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park.
Quintin Berry will also make his first start since exiting Tuesday's game with a right shoulder scare. He'll bat second and start in left field.
Andy Dirks, who belted a solo home run Thursday afternoon, will make his fourth straight start in the outfield, hitting sixth and starting in right.
As a result, Brennan Boesch will sit for the fourth straight game.
The Tigers will look to right-hander Rick Porcello to help trim their two-game deficit against the AL Central-leading White Sox, who couldn't build on their lead after suffering a 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals last night.
Tied with Cleveland for the AL's worst record, Minnesota will counter with right-hander Samuel Deduno, who has walked a major league-worst 48 over his last 13 starts.
With only 13 games remaining, the Tigers will play six games against Minnesota and the other seven against the Royals -- two teams they've had success beating this year.

This game is definitely going to have a rain delay.

nothing too heavy on radar, just start it and play through it, if they don't start it won't get played at all IMO. Rain in the forecast tomorrow to and freaking cold

Gotta wonder at times do some of you really read the threads??? This was in game thread on Tuesday.

Well don't know why they didn't start it on time and choose to delay before it had even started raining. nothing that heavy on radar they should have started it and played through it, wouldn't have been enough to delay it after starting IMO.. now that they choose not to start it.. it's likely it won't get played at all tonight now as it will prolly be light to moderate light raining for hours. They may have really created a mess here I don't think it's going to be any better tomorrow... might have to play 3 on sunday now ;-) they should have started it on time now this series is all going to be a huge mess. stupid stupid stupid.

I was in the car a little while ago and they asked Leyland about it twice but he didn't really answer it. He didn't get mad at all but he didn't answer why Dirks is lower in the order. He just said that Dirks is hitting well and he's definitely the lefty that should be playing instead of Boesch.

I could only think with Berry batting 2nd, more speed at top of order,
the Dirks batting 6th in place of Boesch, Dirks is hitting with some of the power they had anticipated from Boesch, and better fielder. But as much as Berry is loads better in left than young, if leading late 7/8/9, hope Dirks moves to left, and bring in Garcia for RF.

Dirks doesn't get much respect from Leyland for what ever reason.

Based on what?

Dirks came off the DL and instantly got the starting job back over Berry, and has played in most the the games.

But because he's hitting 6th, not second for 1 game all of a sudden Leyland does not respect him?

Seriously, come on man.

only a matter of time before it's called, will be interesting to see how this series is played out with more of the same garbage weather on deck for tomorrow

doesn't get a shot against too many lefty's.

Like last week's rainout in Chicago, MLB has call on delay/rainout tonight, since it's Twins' last trip to Detroit.

Geez, over a 2 hour rain delay already. If this game is played I'm gonna need some coffee.

At least another 1.5 - 2 hours worth to move through yet, this ain't happening tonight. I don't know what's taking them so long to see the obvious.. They should have started it on time before it started to rain and played through it, could be in the 6th or 7th by now.
