I will always wonder if the Tigers would have won the '11 ALCS, had nelson cruz either not been a ranger, or maybe more likely was a Tiger. Some MLB players have just destroyed Tigers pitching moreso than any other ballclub's pitching.

Hoping for only the Tigers 3rd series win of the season this afternoon vs twins. They are 1 home (2 of 3 vs indians) and 1 road (3 of 3 @ astros). Its been almost a month since their last.

2003 Tigers did not have 2 series wins until near the end of May. First was a 3 game sweep @ orioles (May 5-7) and 2 of 3 @ white sox (May 23-25).

After 34 games the '03 Tigers were 7-27...the '19 Tigers were 16-18...the '20 Tigers were 17-17...the '21 Tigers are 10-24.

I think they were closer to winning in 2006...if only the pitchers knew how to play defense.

Perhaps, but the teams' hitting was close to equal in the '06 WS. What wasn't was the far more amount of walks issued by Tigers pitching.

Oh and oddly enough, had the Tigers made it each year to the WS '10-'15, they would have played vs either the cardinals or the giants every time.

I wonder why they wouldn?t just make the game up tomorrow?

Minnesota goes to Chicago Tuesday; the Tigers go to Kansas City.

Sunny skies are projected for the area tomorrow.

Attendees will still be charged for full game ticket prices in a twin bill for a total of 14 innings+ vs 18 innings+

There is also the likliihood of reduced costs of personnel overhead for 2 seven-inning games on the same day, vs 2 nine-inning games on different days.

If most/every state permits full attendance @ sporting events by mid-July, there is the potential for even more savings b/c of the makeup doubleheader 7 inning rule, which I expect MLB will retain permanently.

The last MLB team to 10 wins, the Detroit Tigers find success doing little things right.
Freep

The Tigers? suddenly resurgent offense has averaged 7 runs, 10.8 hits and 4.8 walks over the last five games. Not too shabby for a team that was hitting under .200 collectively and producing fewer runs than any team in baseball up to that point.

If you wanted, you could easily say this about A.J. Hinch: He?s seen this before.

You could say that, couldn?t you? But he hasn?t.

He had a hand in a couple 90+ loss seasons in Arizona, but gleaning anything from those is difficult. Houston is where he should be judged.

The Astros brought him aboard to manage the team heading into the last stage of the rebuild and they were ready to win.

They had no 100-loss seasons under his watch. They began their rise when he arrived.

The experience was far different in Houston. Momentum was building. But in Detroit, there is degradation as the emotions range from apathy to panic.

But A.J. cannot concern himself with that. That?s for Chris Ilitch to think about. And so far, he doesn?t seem to care.

And Al Avila? He is doing his best and you know the rest. It?s far, far, far from good enough. He has been at a complete disadvantage when it comes to making deals with other teams. So much so that every single deal has done close to nothing for his team.

So much so that every single time we try to make a case for someone to be dealt, we are reminded about who will be making that deal. And then that enthusiasm fades away.

And that?s no way to follow a rebuild. Trades, signings and all transactions are in the hands of our GM and we can?t trust him to help the Tigers.

Isn?t that a lousy situation to be in? Is that something A.J. Hinch has seen before? I am going to say no.

Every single day he is learning more and more about his team, which he can impact and learning more and more about his organization, which he can try to impact, but you can?t expect it.

BYBTB Podcast 100: The Red Pill Q&A podcast. 86 minutes.
The BYB staff talks baseball from a Tigers perspective.

Thanks for all the good questions yesterday. We appreciate the response, and this may become a more regular feature of the podcast going forward.

Managing editor Brandon Day talks about the sudden outrage burning through Detroit media and the Tigers fanbase over the team?s rough start. While putting GM Al Avila on the hot seat is well and good with us considering we?ve already had him there for years, let?s remember what is important, and what isn?t, in regard to the Tigers 2021 season. As the team has struggled, too much of the emphasis has been placed on Miguel Cabrera as scapegoat, or the miserable offensive performances from Jonathan Schoop, JaCoby Jones, and Victor Reyes. Let?s try to remember that what matters are players who can be traded, and players who might still be around to help in 2023 and beyond.

For all the hot take theater going on out there, it will only take a brief stretch of winning for all these Johnny-come-lately?s to turn right around and start preaching unending patience once again. Over the last five years, Tigers fans have been patient enough waiting for evidence these are the guys to build a World Series champion in the near future. Still don?t see it.

Beyond that, we?ll get into reader questions ranging from the prospects to A.J. Hinch?s managerial stylings. Thanks for participating, and thanks as always for reading and commenting here at Bless You Boys.

The Tigers have outrighted reliever Buck Farmer to Triple-A Toledo. The team designated the right-hander for assignment last week, but he cleared waivers and will stay with the organization.
Farmer had the best two-year run of his major league career from 2019-20 ? an 89-inning stretch in which he logged a 3.74 ERA with a 23.1 percent strikeout rate, a 7.7 percent walk rate and a 48.6 percent groundball rate.
But this season has been a nightmare for Farmer, whom hitters have lit up for 13 earned runs on 12 hits ? including a whopping eight home runs ? in 9 2/3 innings. The 30-year-old also put up almost as many walks (eight) as strikeouts (10) before the Tigers demoted him.
