Miguel Cabrera is in the starting lineup at first base after leaving last night?s game with tightness in his lower back. Justin Upton gets the day off, shifting Mike Aviles to left field for the matchup with Chris Sale. That leaves Cameron Maybin in the second spot and J.D. Martinez fifth, with Nick Castellanos returning to the lineup in the sixth spot.
For what it?s worth, Ausmus said he hasn?t decided yet whether to keep Maybin in the second spot once the cycle of days off ends and the Tigers lineup returns to full strength.
The White Sox called up outfielder Jason Coats from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was batting .335 with seven home runs. He goes straight into the starting lineup against Mike Pelfrey.

Tigers pitcher Shane Greene, who has been activated from disabled list after missing more than a month with a blistered middle finger, will be used out of the bullpen, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Ausmus said he will be used primarily in the sixth and seventh innings, possibly the eighth as well, depending on who needs rest, who is coming up etc. Greene, who threw 78 pitches his last rehab start, could give them multiple innings but Ausmus said: "I don't really see him as a long man per se."

Tigers have, inexplicably, struggled against left-handed pitching this season, and Saturday's matchup presents a formidable one in Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale (9-1, 2.29 ERA). Sale is winless in his last two starts after starting the season 9-0, and will be looking to record No. 10 against Detroit. What makes him difficult to face? "He throws across his body and his arm's kind of [at a] three-quarters [angle] so it's almost like he's throwing at right-handed hitters from a second-base position," said manager Brad Ausmus. "It's definitely part of what makes him good, other than the fact he throws 95 and has a real good slider, changeup."

If Tigers SS Jose Iglesias is sore tomorrow, here's a good idea why: teammate Ian Kinsler's victory tax each time he beats him one-on-one at basketball on the Tigers' makeshift clubhouse hoop is ten push-ups. Iglesias hasn't won too many of those lately. And Kinsler is a stickler about form.

I hate going into a game knowing we'll lose but this match up doesn't look good.

easy inning for Sale only 10 pitches.

Damn shame they signed Pelfrey to a 2 year contract.

That scout should be run out of town tied to a rail.

Pelfrey is giving us a chance at least. Be nice to see him finally get through the 6th inning though.

Is Ausmus dumb enough to send Pelfrey back out for the 7th?

I just posted in the team notes about Greene going to the bullpen and here he is.
