Titus Young to be cut by the RAMS today

It's really a 3 year deal at the most. You give him the 5 so you can spread out the signing bonus. The rest is fluff base salary but I'm sure Avril would be happy with a 20 million signing bonus this March since it's double franchise money. That's 30 millin dollars in a short amount of time. I don't think Avril deserves a deal like that just proving even with a deal like that we can afford Avril for 2-3 years.

Avril is the fool who didn't take the 3 year deal. The Lions did afford him last year and have room for him this year as well with KVB/Peterman gone, the 2 pay cuts of Raiola and Burleson and a Stafford extension. Plus other moves they could make, Robiskie, Tyrell Johnson, Mike Thomas wasting cap room. Plenty of room to bring back Avril as long as Avril starts to become reasonable. If Avril continues to be unreasonable then he walks and we take a top 5 DE to either replace Avril or pair with Avril.

It was the right move to retain him going into 2012, it's the right move to sign him at a reasonable price but if Avril continues to want to be overpaid, then he'll walk and the Lions have a plan in place with the draft.

Mayhew has done nothing wrong based on the informaiton he had at the time. Avril is the one who messed up with unexpected bad play and delusions of grandeur in his play. He'll come back to the real world once he hits the market. Happened to Tulloch last year.

they both were fools:

mayhew promised to pay him if he performed then renigged. Even offering 3 yrs and 30 mil for a 3-4 OLB who is awful in run support is asinine. Avril is the single most important reason our linebackers look foolish in run support. Get a guy that can set the edge and it makes everyone better on that defense. 10 mil for a guy that doesnt belong there is loony toons.

Avril

foolish for turning down 3 yrs and 30 mil. clear sign he doesnt really want to be here.

Avril provided a good pass rush and was a playmaker in 2011. Not a fool to keep him in 2012. Avril was a fool to turn down 10 million then play like garbage unexpectedly.

Mayhew did nothing wrong. And Mayhew did not reneg. He gave him a franchise deal and offered him 3 year 30 million dollar. Cliff was the idiot. And Cliff does want to be here. He said so all last offseason.

Not sure y people r saying avril played unexpectedly poor last year.

In 2011 he was exposed for the one trick pony he is and the end of the year he did jackshit. Teams know how to block him now. I bet 2012 is his new top level because he refuses to play differently and now teams have him figured out.

His value has dropped to about 5 mil per now that he is purely a passing down DE, and an average one of those at best.

He might only be worth 5m though I think 6m would be okay. There have been many 1 trick ponies at DE making large money. The 'Freak' Dwight Freeney for one. Granted Avril isn't in his category but Freeney sucks at making a tackle.

Yeah, 6 mil I could see. I just hope lions aren't the ones giving it to him.

Avril 2 sacks and 6 hurries Week 14, 2 sacks and 2 hurries Week 15, 1 hit and 2 hurries and a pick 6 in 37 snaps against San Diego and 1 sack, 1 hit and 3 hurries in the playoff game. Avril got better in the end of the year. Don't know what you were watching.

It was completely unexpected for his hits and hurries to drop so much. He was consistent in not only 2011 but 2010 as well. 2012 he became inconsistent unexpectedly with 20 less hurries. His back injury and the game situations didn't help him though.

Maybe it was Suh that dropped off so the OL didn't pay as much attention to him therefore Avril wasn't able to run free. Look at SF. Aldon Smith was tearing it up until Justin Smith got hurt. As soon as the dominant force in the middle was gone Aldon Smith was a non factor.

A couple of HUGE differences though......Freeny did all his damage being double teamed almost every passing down. He did it consistently too.

Avril can't touch Freeneys numbers and almost NEVER sees a double team. He is horribly inconsistent and even with two of the top pass rushing DT's in a pass happy NFL....puts up marginal pass rushing numbers.

Some of that has to do with Justin holding for Aldon.

Didn't I just say he wasn't in his category.

Dude, stop with the deep throating. U suck Avrils dick more than he sucks on the field which is pretty hard to do.

Vast majority on here and every fan I've met personally say the same thing, he is NOT worth the money. Not sure there can be any reason for ur determined defense of him other than u have a mancrush. That's fine, but most of us aint buying the shit u r shoveling.

Unfortunately, mayhew is apparently on ur side, which is one of many reasons most of us believe he is inadequate as a GM. We are tired of watching Avril sprint past the play with little to no impact. Does he ever get lucky, yes, but the good teams figured him out and now even average teams have learned from their methods.

If u want to use back pain as an excuse, tonme that is one more reason NOT to sign the guy. Back pain is far more frequently a recurring problem. It isn't like a knee or ankle, it typically flairs up easily from a hit, twist, or even just coming up out of stance. It degrades a players ability to breakdown for tackles, which was never a strong part of his play to begin with.

He is at best a situational pass rusher who blows himself out of the play with almost a love tap from an OT.

At the right price he should be back. And you spouted lies about Avril sucking down the stretch in 2011. You were proven false, nothing more. And just because you don't agree with what Mayhew does, doesn't make him a bad GM. He has accumulated a ton of talent for this team.

Proven false? Lol. How many times did teams run right at him and he didn't even come close to being in position or make the tackle? U r spouting stats as tho they show some sort of great play on his part, yet the things I saw were him repeatedly running past the running back on ru. Plays that the OT didn't even have to do anything but stand in the way, no actual block being thrown was required. Teams started to key on that and Avril became highly exposed as one dimensional, the one dimension your stats show as his one and only positive contribution.

Avril sucks.

Avril wants a long term deal around 4yr 48 mil or more. He turned down 3 for 30 from us already. He will not be a Lion next year. He is a one dimensional player. He can sack the QB but thats about all he can do. As stated above teams did run right at him they ramn draws and delays in his direction knowing he wouldnt be there when the back ran through and if he was he still wouldnt make the tackle.

he can also take 2 steps up the field and get tossed about 10 yards through the air by any decent RT. hes not worth anymore than 6-8 mil a yr.
