Trent Richardson on his way out of Indy

Trent reminds me of Emmit Smith in a way. Trent tore it up at alabama because they had monsters upfront opening up massive holes for him. He was tough to bring down at the next level but shit, he can't even get to the next level in the pros. He would be wise to take a pay cut trying to get to whomever has the more/most dominant offensive line in the league. Otherwise I don't see him doing too much. Too indecisive when it's time to make a cut and hit the hole.

Isn't it amazing that we did not have a single runner have a 100 yard game this season?

In fact, in one particular week, George Winn led our rushing efforts with a whopping 48 yards.

I point this out because I know we all had high hopes with Bell and Bush and damn, we still haven't had a running game worth talking about since Barry retired.

Really amazining, especially since we stuck with the run all year. Any change is a good change, even if it means grabbing a guy that couldn't succeed elsewhere. Richardson would be no worse than Bell imo. Younger, and way more explosive. A 1st round RB sounds ok at times, but given that we are relying way too much on the strength of our dline to win games, and the fact that that dline probably will not be even a shell of what it is now, without Suh. I'm thinking spend the first 2 picks on defense, maybe even 3. Replacing Suh, Diggs, and finding a replacement for Mathis should be the keys to this offseason. The run game can wait, I guess.

Bell 4.4 YPC in the second half of year. Bad start.

We need Warford and Waddle healthy is what we need.

The Lions will have multiple choices here

Here are the cap hits

Keep Bush 2015 and 2016
2015: 5.28MM
2016: 5.78MM

Make Bush a June 1, 2015 cut
2015: 1.78MM
2016: 1.78MM

Cut Bush after 2015 season
2015: 5.28MM
2016: 1.78MM

Cut Bush now (before June 1, 2015)
2015: 3.56MM
2016: 0

Bush had 4.5 YPC in 2013. Still a receiving threat. Showed up big home against Green Bay and at Chicago.

I keep him one more year for only 1.7 million savings. Riddick hasn't shown he can run between tackles. Bush has in 2011-2013.

2013? How about 2014 when he averaged 3.9 yards per carry and only had 297 yards. He did have 253 receiving yards....what a threat!!!

If Suh is franchised, it might be worth cutting Bush after June 1. It will provide the highest savings in 2015.

Though I really don't want to bother with cap scenarios right now, last year showed that the cap is unpredictable... I'd wait until at least the draft.

He was hurt a ton. Helped in 2 big games.

I'd keep him. But we may go for the cap savings.

On Richardson:
Even as a rookie he wasn't good. He only put up decent (18th overall) yardage totals because he was given a lot of carries (11th overall), not because he was any good. His 3.6 ypc that year (highest of his career) was still 40th(!) in the league. Richardson has no real positives in the NFL. Any team that uses him is throwing away cap space and picks (if they trade for him).

On Bush:
Bush had injuries (which he often does) and it limited his effectiveness. The question is whether he provides enough value to meet his contract and whether we have other personnel that can replicate his skillset. The answer to the former is no. He's providing replacement level play overall while missing multiple games every year. The answer to the latter is yes. Bell is a better pure runner, while Riddick provides the receiving and speed skills. Cutting him now is the better option since it saves the most money overall.

Reggie's best role at this point is probably as a return specialist. If we don't cut him, it would be smart to push him into Ross's role and cut him out of the offense outside of special plays.

This would be the only time in the 1st round that I'm okay with the Lions drafting an RB. They need a gamebreaker.

i don't see that much difference between M.Gordon, T.Gurley (1st rounders) and A.Abdullah (2nd or 3rd rounder). we've all seen that it no longer takes a 1st rounder to be successful anymore. build in the trenches and anyone can be a successful runner.

I think you can use that logic with any position. It just requires being able to successfully identify talent no matter what round.

Picking up a 1st round RB is almost ridiculous to me. Our line is not built to produce a strong running game. There is probably only one RB in the league right now that would produce big numbers behind any line (Peterson). Even if we could somehow draft a 100% healthy Todd Gurley, would that really matter? RT is a revolving door, Sims is done, Raiola has been done his entire career (and Swanson isn't much better). Rieff is more pass-blocker than run-blocker.

If the team isn't focused on the O-line and D-line (particularly depending on what happens with Suh-Fairley), then they aren't making the team better. If we could find a legitimate OG and RT, the entire offense could take off.

Low rounder this year.....then use whatever pieces you have (to trade) and grab Elliot next year.....THAT guy is a game changer!

I agree with all of this except Swanson.....to me, it's too early to tell with that guy. Rookie year....2 starts.....not really bad in either of them......gotta give him another year or 2 before writing him off.

OG, OT, DT (either to replace Suh or play with him) and DE are all higher priorities than any other positions.......maaaaaaaybe CB in there too!

I understand the offensive line needs to be built up, but in the first three rounds, I'd like to see an RB. It would be nice for this team to have someone that can be a threat out of the backfield.

look at all the no name backs tearing it up. running backs are a dime a dozen as long as they have holes to run through. it's absolutely retarded to draft a big name back without addressing the OL... with a good OL, any undrafted rookie can be made into the next Arian Foster
