UNC and UVA Offered BigTen Invitation

So the Iditerod does not get on the list then?

That starts in Sarah Palin's hometown, you know...

well, that particular race maybe, but not dogsledding generally, which is done by brave men who cross the tundra or the polar regions, like this guy:

My doggie would have been a great sled dog.

In the animal protection community, it is very un PC to enjoy any events that include animal competition - PETA type nuts claim that those types of events are cruel.

So I keep my mouth shut about the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup and the Iditerod when I'm around those people.

Just like you keep your mouth shut about the NRA when you're out on the skeet shooting range.

That groupie is pretty douchie, but Shawn is a stud.

Want to see douchie ...

Probably the dogmatic talkings points would be "frisbee throwing in;" "frisbee throwing competition out."

I think you have to get a border collie ...or at least for the maze obstacle course. Labs seem to jump pretty far in the jump off the dock contest.

I was looking at the breed of the winning dogs for the past couple years. no labs. a couple collies though, and some australian sheep dogs.

i think labs are too big and slow to do that.

no schnauzers have won it. my goal is to train the first winning frisbee dog schnauzer.

The jump off the dock competition is a completely different event than the traditional land based frisbee throw and catch, and perfectly oriented to the aquatic retrieving nature of the lab.

Your little schnauzer, on the other hand, would just fuckin' drown.

I wouldn't be entering him in that. not sure where I'd train anyways; would have to go down to lake michigan. there is a dog beach that has a pier I guess we could use, but there's always so many other dogs there; I'd throw the ball, and 8 of them would probably go after it.

Tinsel, schnauzers are small, but they're not toy dogs; the Germans bred them to still be working dogs, going after rodents and small game.

Nice form.

and of course they were bred in three sizes: miniature, standard, and giant.

for the avoidance of doubt, was just talking about training a frisbee dog, not an aquatic dog.

I don't even really like swimming that much myself.

but I have seen the jump off the dock competition on ESPN 2. It was actually pretty fun to watch. Dog shows are boring as hell, but some of the sports are fun. They're also emblematic of the deeper inter-species partnership between man & dog that went on to rule the world.

I always liked greyhounds too. Probably better suited to being a champion frisbee dog with the speed and jumping ability...

I was tempted to get one from greyhound rescue. I figured it would be a pain to have them in the city, thinking they would need a lot more space, but a coworker has one, and he said she requires the same amount of exercise as any other dog, and sleeps most of the day anyway.

Greyhounds can be a bit jumpy and nervous in general, by breed. My father in law is a greyhound, whippet, italian greyhound dog guy .... They're smart, but can be a bit odd too.

I don't know if I think the notion of breeding the first disc champion schnauzer is really very feasible.
