Detroit Tigers News: Victor Martinez’s heart problems have resurfaced.
V-Mart’s health issues are at the forefront again.

Depending on what the doctors can figure out, Victor Martinez is going to be asking himself some very tough questions in the next few months.
The Tigers have placed designated hitter Victor Martinez on the 10-day disabled list with an irregular heartbeat.
It is Martinez’s second trip to the DL for such symptoms this season.
Ausmus said Martinez felt his heart rate racing following his final at-bat Saturday. He told head athletic trainer Kevin Rand, who recommended Martinez be hospitalized. Martinez was concerned, Ausmus said, but more at ease than he was during his first such episode in June. Martinez spent a few days in a Detroit hospital in that case, and he wore a heart monitor for the next week.
"They need to find out why it's happening again," Ausmus said, "and they're not sure why."
Martinez, 38, is hitting .255 with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs this season, .697 OPS in 107 games, has also collected 16 doubles.
His wRC+ sits at 85, while his on-base percentage is at .324. The veteran also owns a .117 ISO and a .303 wOBA.
His offensive production has severely declined this season, after hitting .289 with 27 home runs and 86 RBIs last season.
Martinez is in the third year of a four-year deal. He has roughly $21 million remaining on his contract. The second heart issue comes just a few days after cameras captured Martinez having an animated exchange with teammate Justin Verlander in the dugout after a benches-clearing episode with the Yankees.
Martinez, 38, spent Saturday night in a Chicago hospital. He was expected to be released Sunday and be driven back to Detroit.
This recurring heart condition, on top of his declining production (.255, 10 home runs, 47 RBIs), could greatly impact his decision to return next season.
“The first question Vic should ask the doctors is, ‘Is this putting me at risk? Is there any long-term risk?’” Ausmus said. “That would be the first question I would ask. And, depending on the answer, make a decision accordingly.”
Martinez has a history of heart issues in his family. His father died of a heart attack when he was young.
For Players Weekend, Martinez wore the nickname "Papicho" on the back of his jersey, rather than V-Mart, because it was the nickname his father gave him when he was very young.
The Tigers have recalled outfielder JaCoby Jones from Toledo to fill the roster spot. Jones had been sent down Friday night.
