Verlander will Not pitch on 3 days rest in ALDS

Leyland has hedged a bit on his original statement. He might be throwing smoke to not reveal his hand. I imagine that JV pitches in GM 4 (if there is one) if Detroit is down 2-1.

Fister is scheduled to pitch Monday against the Tribe -- then next Saturday against (most likely) Boston in the 2nd game.

I agree. There's absolutely no upside to revealing your plan right now, if you are a manager. Let the other teams work out all the scenarios, rather than just handing them your plan.
