Vs ASU

I have to ask, why the hate for ASU? I don't know of many people around here who have much opinion on them either.

Went to grad school at UA. Been to Tempe and found the campus plain and unimaginative. It was a long time ago, admittedly. As for football, Frank Kush, a sadist who abused his players, could have been arrested in the civilian world for the drills that "motivated". All to compile a winning record in the WAC at the time. I recall several of his teams were top-10 finishers, with a #2 12-0 team in 1975.

I admit it's all a bit long-term, deep-seeded and irrational, but what disdain for a school is not?

EDIT: Makes the '87 RB loss to ASU especially (still) hard to ponder, especially after M being up 15-0.

Gotcha. On the way out of the stadium back to the lots/ramps (like a Spartan zombie death march after that loss) there were some pretty cool ASU fans actually that I?d chit chatted with briefly, I figured they?d probably be assholes post win but were very complimentary of the game/visit.

Also I think everyone has a hate for some oddball school or team. I?ve always hated Syracuse (mainly only basketball) since I was a kid, no idea why, I think I always found them cocky and super overrated, and Boeheim has always rubbed me the wrong way even before their scandal a couple of years ago.

It's also a bit of the Phoenix-Tucson dynamic, where Phoenicians look down on Tucsonians, which, as I recall, was a bit provincial, but I preferred Tucson to Phoenix by a wide margin.

In the early 90s I spent 4 weeks around September or October in Scottsdale doing M&A due diligence for a client. Most of the team was in their early to mid 20s so we would go out to ASU bars at night, and a couple times we drove around campus in the late afternoon. I've never seen anything that comes even close to ASU when it comes to beautiful women. Apparently back then and maybe now too, it was packed with southern California girls that couldn't get into UCLA or USC.

This was one "my neighbors cousins old college roommate" away from being a Vic post

How so? It's not even 1 degree removed, I was actually there several times over the course of a month and saw it with my own eyes.

I haven’t met many ASU alums. The one I worked with was actually really competent and intelligent, but also attended ASU on a full ride and went to their honors college, so... not a typical “Sun Devil” maybe.

Regardless, it’s hard to hate on dumb, good-looking people who just want to bong beers and jump in a pool all-day, everyday. Let them have their fun, and take it easy for the rest of us.
