Vs Rutgers

Defense held us in it for as long as they could. Run game has been good. Just got nothing from our qb. Line actually hasn't been horrible either. But I'm sure there's plenty of excuses to make for Chiles. He flashes excitement for 1 or 2 plays a game, but just has zero touch or consistency. Maybe we get lucky and he finally takes a step in the 2nd half.

Other than Marsh and Kim and maybe one or two others, this team is trash. We are getting our asses handed to us by a 3-5 team that hasn’t beaten a B1G team with a winning record. They are pace to have a 200 yd rusher and put up over 400 yards in a blizzard.

20 minutes is as long as the defense could keep us in it?

Even if we had a decent offense, we would probably need more than that from the D.

Defense is young and thin. Have had a lot of injuries there, but young guys are getting snaps that probably aren't ready. Run game has gotten better as the season has went on. Line has been much better. Nobody expected this team to win 10 games this year. Most of us just wanted to see the team bet better as the season went on. It's hard to gauge the offensive players because their most important player has not got better at all. Like this drive, good runs to start off and then Chiles stops the drive.

Been decent on 1st and 2nd down defensively. 3rd down has just been a killer

Defense has had 2 good series, Rutgers has scored on every other possession. The run game hasn’t gotten better, they just look less shitty against bottom tier teams like RU that give up 340 yds rushing per game. Marsh is our only good receiver and he’s double teamed constantly. Chiles isn’t good but he’s probably one of the most sacked QBs in the league - some of it’s on him but this line stinks. I’d be curious to know their success rate on 3rd and 4th and short. I’d take the under on 50%.

There have been a ton of injuries, particularly on defense but that doesn’t change the fact that the secondary is putrid - it’s just an excuse for why they suck so badly. They continue to play undisciplined committing stupid penalties and making bone-headed mistakes. It’s true no one was expecting to win 10 games but they could be a 7 win team and Chiles isn’t the only reason they’re not.

We can’t expect much this year and I haven’t. I just don’t see much improvement from last year and I don’t think all or most of it is on one disappointing player - the team isn’t significantly improved anywhere.

Not having Brantley and Spencer doesn't help, does it? Just trying to patch together a defensive backfield at this point.
Other than maybe Haladay, it’s hard to imagine an injury that would improve a team.

Pathetic effort to end an awful season. Not a great start to the second J Smith era. Hopefully it gets better from here - lotta work to be done.
