We're not getting home field advantage

If the Tigers win tomorrow, and the Rangers lose, then wouldn't they then win HFA b/c of a tied record, due to their winning the season series?

Not sure. I would rather go to NY than host TB

Yes.

But it's unlikely.

Maybe but to say its unlikely or just not know what's going on like the OP is being a big short sighted, eh?

Whether it's in the first round or the second round, whoever wins the AL Championship and is not the Yankees is going to have to beat the Yankees with the Yankees having home field advantage, or beat a team that just beat the Yankees with the Yankees having home field advantage.

We should've won on Saturday, oh well

There were 65 losses prior to Saturday that we should have won a few of too!

Personally, I wanted to play and beat the Yankees in the pennant series. But knocking them out of the playoffs early in Game 5 of the ALDS - at their own home field in the Bronx, will be hugely rewarding and satisfying..... should it go there.

We will know more tonight after both games of Tigers and Rangers are complete.

True, and as they did last season the Rangers obviously have the firepower and enough pitching to beat the Yanks having HFA.

But it appears likely that the Tigers will be the team that begins their postseason on the road, while the Rangers begin theirs @ home vs the Rays or Red Sox.

Do I think that the Tigers can beat the Yanks in the ALDS?

Yes.

Will they do so ala the '06 postseason?

Obviously not, as the Yankees and their manager/coaching won't overlook or be overconfident vs the Tigers this time. Verlander, Fister, Scherzer, Porcello, and esp. the Tigers middle relief (Coke, Perry, Al-Al) MUST be on their "A" games, else the Tigers will exit the postseason quickly, no matter how well the rest of the team performs at the plate or...sigh..on the field, IMO.

It may well be that the Tigers will not have HFA at all in the postseason, even if they manage to make it all the way to the WS again, just like what happened in '06 as the AL WC team..

Maybe this is the Angels' "revenge" for the whole Weaver incident. Wouldn't put it past some of those tools...

yeah they sure have quit..

In all honesty its whether or not you want to face the Yankee's in a 5 game series or a 7 game series. I don't believe Texas matches up well against the Yankee's as they have showed this year by going 2-7.

I believe we match up really well against the Yankee's in a 5 game series since we were able to set our rotation ahead of time instead of possibly starting the ALCS in a seven game series without our 2 big guns starting game 1 and 2. With that said I believe the Yankee's pose the greatest threat to us getting to the WS so IMO facing them in round 1 favors our pitching match-ups.

In a 5 game series the match-ups would look like so...

Game 1 @NY - Verlander vs CC
Game 2 @NY - Fister vs Nova
Game 3 @DET - Scherzer vs Garcia
Game 4 @DET - Porcello vs CC
Game 5 @NY - Verlander vs Nova

You think CC can go on 3 days rest but not JV? JV is the ultimate horse.

JV has never, CC has

There is NO WAY that Porcello should get the ball in ANY game we play in the post season. He is an automatic L.

I do not agree. If his sinking fastball is down in the strike-zone, he can beat anyone. I have all the confidence in the world in him. He really has good stuff, problem is that he is not consistent.

No pitcher ever doesn't try to get the batter out; no fielder ever doesn't try to make the play, every hitter goes up to the plate trying to get a hit...

If anything, the Angels would want to have some revenge against their own division rivals, Texas, knocking them out of the 2 seed...but...

No player on the Angels is going to think about getting revenge against either the Tigers or the Rangers...they're just going to try to get hits or putouts...

Leyland has already stated that he will not pitch JV on 3 days rest this post season where as Girardi has started CC on 3 days rest several times and has already stated he would if needed again during this post season.

I agree in terms of JV being a horse but come the post season Leyland wont pitch him on 3 days rest.
