what type of gun nut are you?

Classrooms are not very large spaces. And desks do not offer sufficient cover. Since we're getting clinical and forensic-like here. There's a chill going through this thread that is quelling my willingness to participate and I don't support an AR ban.

I'm holding back too. I didn't think you needed to be that specific to argue that what weapons are used matter, but it seems M&B thinks things unfolded the only way they possibly could.

Except there's really only so much you can physically do in 2 seconds, even if it may feel longer.

There is ALOT you can do in two seconds. Jesus. Shut up on the topics you are obviously not in anyway familiar with.

Well I'm just going to disagree with you. In a situation like that, there's little you can do in 2 seconds; especially if you're an 8 year old.

On any assignment in any course at the University of Michigan, had M&B09 claimed that he could know a hypothetical with "100% certainty," he would have flunked - and he knows it.

And he also thinks that in two seconds it's impossible to dislodge an eyeball, bite a nose clean from the face and crush a windpipe of a person who is busy reloading a .38 revolver. The moron can't even abstract the notion that the shooter has to surrender control of the weapon to defend himself, or at least stop reloading!

Tell you what -- get in a fight to the finish and get back to me when you have some practical experience in the matter.

That's the problem, people are unwilling to talk about the unimaginable things people out there are willing, and wish, to do. These discussions need to happen because policies can't be rushed through just because we're unwilling to admit the logistics of things like this. The fact is, these are unarmed kids and no matter what gun you have it's going to be almost impossible to stop someone from doing what they did under the current conditions.

Yeah, if you're already in hand to hand combat with someone 2 seconds is a lot. Unfortunately you'd be shot before that ever happened so 2 seconds is nothing. You can't even get off the ground completely in 2 seconds. 2 seconds is also a long time in a 100 meter dash.....but that's not what we're measuring.

Son, there's no way you are going to lecture me on the nature of unimaginable things people are willing to do.

I can't fix this magnitude of stupidity. No one can.

agreed, but the original comment was about running away in a larger space. i've stated previously the weapon does not matter in a classroom of 5-7 year olds, unfortunately.

Right, except that people who've been in these situations generally report exactly what I'm saying. They don't know what's going on, the human response is often to freeze and the few people who attempt to do something (unarmed) are often the first one's shot.

That's not the problem. I'm not unwilling to talk in general. There's a time and a place when talk is productive and there's trolling on subjects where people have genuine emotional responses.

And I'm not trolling this topic. I truly believe it doesn't matter what guns he had available to him.

lol, as if your hypothesis is 100% proven. the entire problem revolves around the lack of a magical fix. if there was one, i would be all for it, but unfortunately the US could destroy all current ARs within its borders, ban the gun companies from making more, and the end result would be guns being bought illegally, brought in by china, russia, and other countries still making them and looking to cash in on the vacuum created by such measures. the argument that it is more difficult holds no water when all anyone would need to do is go find their nearest drug dealer and ask to buy an AR for more than they paid for it.

You believe it had to be a specific number of people. No chance it could have been more or less if different guns were available. 99.9% certain.
