Why do people assume that everyone has the chance to get out? ...
that's one factor... there are a lot of myths out there that you need to accept as true before you can get to where Fox News wants you to be.
Myth 1. everyone who lives on the coast anywhere is just sitting there with a car or a bus ticket, or other means of leaving. they also have a place to go, and enough money to pay for a week long motel or hotel without this being a financial burden. and they don't have to worry about being fired from a job if they decide to leave and their boss is requiring them to work up to the day the hurricane hits. and they are all democrats.
Result: so it's their own fault if they drown in the storm surge or are killed by falling trees/fires/downed power lines, and you do not need to be concerned for them. maybe pray for their souls, but not really, because they are democrats, and you wouldn't want to be around democrats when you go to heaven, right?
also: Myth 1 was even more true for New Orleans, even though the people there were relatively poorer than NYC.
Myth 2. If an American dies as a result of terrorism*, this is the worst thing ever, and deserves endless coverage. and if the terrorist attack can be blamed on a democratic politician or official, it should be. If a republican is in office, it's automatically not his fault, even if he ignored repeated warnings from his own intelligence officials like Bush did, but instead is a reason to bomb some people who are muslim.
*terrorism here only includes islamic terrorists. people who kill doctors who perform abortions, bomb planned parenthood clinics, or attack Federal government buildings/installations are a little bit wrong-headed, but we would not really go out of our way to criticise them, because we actually agree with the result, and really don't have a problem with violence, as long as it serves our political ends.
result: you're going to have to keep hearing about the Benghazi attack on Fox until we can find something else to bash Obama about. better get used to it.
