Zach Zenner on IR with cracked ribs and collapsed Lung...

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 26m26 minutes ago
#Lions coach Jim Caldwell said promising rookie RB Zach Zenner suffered multiple cracked ribs and a partially collapsed lung. He'll be on IR

Jesus - he looked to be in some serious pain after that hit yesterday, but I never would have guessed it was THAT Bad...get well soon buddy, you have earned your place in the NFL, and will be missed the rest of the season

Bet he never plays another down in the nfl, and goes back to med school. Which sucks, for us

If you are smart enough to go to med school why are you putting your long term health at risk playing in the NFL for league minimum?

I cracked and separated (off my sternum) multiple ribs playing football and it is one of the most painful things I've ever done to myself. It hurt every time I'd take a breath. It is far from a career ending injury though. I think it took me about 4-6wks before I was back on the field wearing a spider under my shoulder pads and some of the extended QB pads on my sides. In hindsight, I wasn't totally healed when I returned and probably needed about 8wks to fully recover, but once healed I was fine.

Because playing in the NFL, even for a short period might be considered a life goal. Idk

This is what I was thinking...hes clearly a bright guy, he is also super competitive and figured this was his best chance at fulfilling his dream at playing in the NFL, and didn't want to have any 'what ifs' come up later in life. I cant fault him for that...

In addition, the NFL league min. salary for a rookie is $435k, which is more than double the average salary of a US physician. So, its not like he is taking a pay cut to play in the NFL or anything. Even if he sticks around for 2 years, he will be able to pay for med school without basically any loans.

On a separate note - this leaves the Lions with what, two RB's on the roster? one of which is essentially a slot receiver. Wonder who the Lions will pull off the street to come suit up?

Winn will be promoted I'm sure.

Abdullah(stinger) and Bel(ankle) and Riddick (groin) all need to get healthy. Glad Riddick did well yesterday at least (rushing and receiving).

I hate for guy to get injured like that but how has he earned his place in the NFL? 71 yards in 6 games?

Abdullah fumbling away a great chance to be the feature back. Every option ahead of him is injured and he can't hold on to the ball.

Too bad.
