2018 Head Coach Search Matt Patricia

I just want the Lions to be tight lipped about everything. They lost out on Whisenhunt and ended up with our second choice. . (Which turned out ok I guess) probably all media driven anyway. what is so special about Vrabel? Guess He Can Blame his bad defense on injuries too. I will give you he has energy which would be refreshing after deer in headlights Caldwell.

Vrabel has been getting buzz for the last couple of yrs now. Comes from the Evil Empire too. That's always big...lol

If you guys like Vrabel I can get on board with it. I have no feel for Vrabel other then his Houston went down hill after Watson went down. His defense was banged up but did not do as well as the previous year. Yeah osu sucks but in the NFL who cares as long as they win!!!

Whisenhunt was a joke tho. He's a terrible HC. We lucked out with Caldwell believe it or not lol.
Can't do anything about it if Patricia picks NY. I'm hoping it's just a rumor but i'm ok with Vrabel. After that?? Not a clue...

So now our choice is a guy that was the coach of a defense that gave up the most points in the league?

I rather have the OC from Minnesota.

Side note: Maybe when Patricia talked to Billy Bob he said "hell no." Lol.

So I have to be honest. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I read the origin story from the NY guy that "broke" this news. I don't see a single thing that says Patricia favors NY, or wants to go to NY. All I see is that he thinks Patricia and the GM would like each other.

"In fact, there are indications he prefers the Giants to the Lions."

That's the story?

I’m waiting for the plot twist when Patricia goes to Arizona

Given Quinn’s familiarity with Patricia, I would hope that Quinn has the inside scoop on Patricia wanting the Giants job or not. If this report is 100% accurate, you’d probably see the Vrabel-Lions talk ramp up significantly, which hasn’t happened (yet).

That said, if the Lions wait and lose out on Patricia, this is going to look disastrous for Quinn. I don’t think that happens though, I trust Quinn given the Patriots connection.

I trust Rappoport saying the Lions and Patricia have a verbal, rather than some dude reporting that they'd be a good fit and it becoming a story for some reason.

Fake account ahhh!

Damn twitter.

But regardless, this source story is shit.

Supposedly Patricia prefers the Giants because he grew up in New York, and his wife is from the area.

Honestly, I don't care either way. It looks like one way or another we're getting a first time head coach or a failed head coach being recycled. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing... let us not forget they ran Belichick out of Cleveland as a "failed recycled" coach too.

My point is there are no guarantees with a first time coach. Hot Rod Marinelli was another guy who was considered a defensive genius who was a hot name in coaching and ready to take over a team, and how did that work out.

If the Patricia story is true (and the New York media is notorious for writing gut feelings as "all signs point to" stories) then there is stilL Wilks, Vrabel, Shurmur, and a whole host of other very qualified candidates who are just as much of a risk as Patricia.

I'm not married to the idea of any one guy. Even Josh McDaniels hopefully learned from his failures in Denver and came away with a better perspective ready to succeed.

I'd take any of those names... one is just as good as the next to me. Until they prove they are something special... they are all an unknown quantity in the job.

Yeah, but that "unforseen thing" sounds like it might be "I don't want the job".... Quinn didn't see that shit coming! hahaha.

I know everybody is foaming at the mouth over Patricia, but I think Shurmur could do wonders for this offense, and provide a ton of Intel on a division rival. Not saying I would mind Patricia, but Shurmur might be the guy that puts this offense in the elite category

Maybe he can bring the Viking's DC with him because our defense needs more help.

Every time we go through this I always have someone I want and am always wrong about it. Curious though if we go offense HC, more likely HBC stays or goes? Or does it not matter.

That could definitely be true. Like I said, I just want somebody that has an aggressive defensive scheme. So, if Shurmur has that, I'd be very happy with that choice.

How about recent fired OC from Seattle, Bevell, as OC here?

That offense was pretty much have Russel Wilson run around for his life and hopefully make a play. Not sure if it was players or scheme but the oline looked a whole lot worse than ours every game I saw and their running game was as bad as ours.

Their RBs 994 yards on 301 carries 3.30 YPC
Our RBs 1073 yards on 325 carries 3.30 YPC
