Calvin Has Officially Retired

Its' extremely uncommon for a team to go after prorated signing bonus money when one of it's superstars retires early, especially when on the field injuries are involved.

Rod Wood made a business call that was, in my opinion, based on both inexperience in the game and a salary cap issue.

I think Calvin took it as a knock on him... like he's not worthy of being a superstar, or "on that level".

If you want him back, you have to fix the slight. If you don't, tell him to fuck off in the media, and move on.

I assume Calvin is broke already like many former pro sports players.

Sadly...Calvin would still easily be the #1 WR for Det. Pay him the 1m and let him enter to HOF as a Lion. The money doesn’t hurt cap space.

Lions release statement in response to Calvin's blasting the franchise as being incompetent:

Here's my take......he's bitter. Calvin knows how great he was. There has probably not been a more physically gifted WR EVER. Jerry Rice WISHES he could have had CJ's tools. But, his teams WERE terrible and the organization he played for was lost, incompetent, bad, misguided......any word you'd like to use. I think he's bitter he didn't win a Super Bowl......and I'm OK with that. Great players of any position SHOULD be mad if they didn't get that chance. You don't think Marino dies a little each time someone reminds him that Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypen, Doug Williams and Joe Flacco have Super Bowl titles......or that fucking Eli Manning has TWO!!!! Fuck yes he does.

What I don't like is his immature attitude toward the organization NOW. Calvin could have left after his rookie contract. NOBODY on this planet made him re-sign here. So his sob story only carries so much weight with me. I dont have any sympathy for guys who sit there and bitch about what a terrible person their wife is....fat, stupid, cheating.....and continue to stay with them. If you're too much of a pussy to leave, that's on you. CJ should stop being such a baby about it. His CHOICE was to play here after his rookie deal. Own up to that.

The lions were incompetent almost the entire time he was here...nothing hes saying is wrong so i cant fault him for it. Millen then Mayhew!? lol...what a fucking joke of a franchise when those are the 2 running your team for a decade.

Cant fault him? HE RESIGNED!! That is ENTIRELY his "fault". He could have gone to any other team and gotten a massive payday. It's not the NBA.....there is no Larry Bird rule. He would have made just as much, if not more in a bigger market, than he did in Detroit.

Man up CJ.

They probably would have franchised him after his rookie contract ran out. He probably made a business decision to sign the $132M contract.
