IMO, baseball "aligning" themselves with sports betting has nothing to do with the situation. The problem is that California is one of 10 states where gambling is illegal. If the bets were made in Mi, there wouldn't be a problem at all...even if Otani made the bets himself.

Joey Wentz and Alex Faedo make the Opening Day bullpen.
The Opening Day roster is now set as Beau Brieske is optioned to Triple-A, while RHP Miguel Diaz’s fate remains uncertain.

The Tigers have released Triple-A catcher Donny Sands. Looks like Anthony Bemboom will back up Dillon Dingler there.

The Toledo Mud Hens should be a force in the International League this season.
More importantly, the Tigers have better prospect depth at the Triple-A level to draw on this season than all but a few teams.

Do not expect similar performance compared to 2023 from Detroit Tigers backstop.
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers is heading into the 2024 season with a chip on his shoulder after a breakout season in 2023. Do not expect similar results this year.

It should be noted that just because a player makes the Opening Day roster, doesn't mean they'll be here all season. Not with the way this front office operates. This roster will be a revolving door all season long. For example, Brieske probably won't be down in Toledo that long. All it takes is one injury.

Detroit News Tigers Today podcast: It's time for baseball. Can Detroit actually contend? 28 minutes.

It's almost time to play ball ... and Tony Paul and Chris McCosky have you covered on Tigers Today.

On this edition of The Detroit News' podcast, they preview the Tigers' 2024 season, which gets underway on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago (4:10 p.m., BSD/97.1).

Chris predicts the Tigers will reach the .500 level (81-81) and Tony says they'll win 87 games, but they both expect Detroit to contend in the Central Division because of the best five-man starting pitching staff in arguably the weakest division in the American League.
