We need to resolve these important issues before the season starts.

Only in emergencies in public johns and you can squat w/o contact ...

I wipe it down with TP first, but I don't sit on TP.

hmmm... I didn't consider that a possible response. but I guess it goes with option #3, sorry. I Should have conducted a survey of bathroom behavior before creating the poll.

The single, most positive contribution I feel I ever made to this board was when I shared my strategy of laying TP over the automatic flush sensor so it doesn't go off until you want it to.

that's a good tip. not sure when you posted it, but I never read it until now.

would've come in handy at my last job... the auto-flush was supersensitive and would go off all the time.

also: to save money they cleaned the bathrooms in the middle of the day (!) which I guess was cheaper than paying for housekeeping after 5 pm? gawd that place sucked.

Damfran is shaking his head

arrrgh, yes unfortunately the poster who has the most wisdom to share with this thread does not post during the offseason.

maybe he'll drop by unexpectedly? we can only hope.

This is me. The wiping with dry TP causes friction, which kills a lot of germs. There are still germs on TP, so you still get germs on your ass using the TP method. Then there's the whole hypocrisy of grabbing the door, opening it, grabbing the tp that someone else just used, ripping off enough to cover the seat, grabbing the tp while trying not to come in contact with the seat, sometimes flushing the nasty handle/pushing a nasty button, again grabbing the nasty door/handle, and finally the whole germy experience around the sink/towels/blower and exiting the bathroom through the nasty door.

Coming into contact with germs is inevitable. Exposure to germs builds your immune system. I'm not going to sit on someone's feces, but people go a little nuts about germs.

As someone who travels a lot, you can't really think about it ...the handrails, elevator buttons, door handles, tray tables or steering wheels.

Then again, knock on wood, I don't get sick much and do think it's partly because I'm always exposed to whatever.

I am home field advantage type of guy. If on a trip where playing at home is not a option, then the hotel becomes the "spring training" home field. I will on occasion visit certain places at work, but its a large area and I have keys to all the doors, so finding a nice private already clean place isn't to bad.

Ohh yes, there is a process that takes place in the bathroom and leaving as germ free as possible. Normally I never crap in public unless its a desperate case of diarrhea. In that case im fumbling with the toilet paper to lay it down and clinching with everything ive got. I only used the high school crapper 1 time in 4 years, I was prodigious at holding off.

I started carrying hand sanitizer in the car and in the toiletry kit on travels several years ago.

Good subject. I am a guy who wipes it down first if I have to use public restrooms.

When I was going to school the only bathroom I used on campus was on the 7th floor of the Hatcher Library. I liked to imagine that I was the only one willing to actually go up there just to do their business.

Want to add that I very rarely use public rest rooms to take a dump, as well. I use them only in the rare emergency. I have held it for hours just to be able to sit and relax at home.

i do make one exception, though and that is the rest room at the gym. I can't lift and hold it at the same time. That hand sanitizer is a good tip. We have those sanitizing wipes out in the weight area. I could very easily grab a few on my way in. Thanks for that. I'll still have to touch a lot of other things, but i can sanitize the toilet seat.

Also the 2 other things I thought of in the bathroom. I use a paper towel to turn on the hot water and off. if you wash your hands and then turn off the knob its got dick hand all over it. same as leaving the wash room (for people that dont wash). I open or push the door with a towel and then roll it up and pull up for the 3 to the closest trash can. Been doing thsi at least 10-12 years.

I carry travel package of seat covers and wipes

Also like the idea of covering the auto sensor
Had a DIA toilet go crazy and got water (clean) all over my pants

In General, that is what you are supposed to do - use paper towel for faucet and door handles

Yep the paper towel instead of touching things is recommended for years given the number if people who don't wash, germs etc

I too do not like public restrooms of any sort and try to hold off
Unfortunately aging makes that a bit more difficult at times
