Actually, the first guy out of the pen has done well all week; it's the second or third guy out that has done damage. Of course, outside of the 2nd inning yesterday, the real damage has been done by the dormant offense.

Well, for a contrast, Verlander got in the same count in almost the same situation (two outs instead of one), took no chances of the same thing happening and issued the walk, then made it a bit worse by hitting someone, but still pitched out of it. Perhaps taking the risk of a bb when their...

Of course it's easier to hit when you are ahead in a count; you can look for anything in your happy zone. Don't pitch there, and the odds get better.

That doesn't force the pitcher to groove it straight into the batter's happy zone; the rest of the strike zone is a possibility. Of course, Flaherty was probably aiming for something a bit to one side or the other of where those pitches ended up.

Gibson: "Just don't throw it down and in". Flaherty throws two pitches down and in, and the second goes over the fence....

Game 37 Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Indians 1:10 EST 5/8

I know this might not be a satisfying answer, but I see several things going on that add up to our position now. First, you say that the Tigers aren’t poor, but how rich is the owner letting the team be? We don’t know, but what we do know is that the richer teams are spending money like there...

I watched people here start blaming Harris last year, and it continues. Do we know how much money Harris has been given to sign people? Was Canha or Urshela a bad signing? Keith was signed to a long term contract, and he is performing about as well as a fast track rookie would be expected to...

Her reasoning as spelled out in the article is sound. Harris has had one year of oversight on the draft, and apparently limited options in terms of free agent hires (we aren't the Dodgers or Yankees). As she spelled out in the article, most of the hitters that are struggling were acquired by...

    Game 36 Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Guardians 6:10 p.m. EST 5/7

We have seen way too many gidp to score a run so far this year. All he needed to do was get the ball in the air.

    Game 34, Tigers & Yankees, 5/5/2024

13th in home runs while being 24th in slugging tells us that not much is happening outside of a few handfuls of home runs. 31st (out of 31) in batting average confirms that in spades.

    Game 33, Tigers & Yankees, 5/4/2024

Just an afterthought. We essentially lost the last two games on hits by Rizzo with runners on second and third. Issuing an intentional bb would have loaded the bases for Gleyber Torres, who is really in a slump right now. Given the walk off nature of things last night, it should have been a no...

And now the ump calls a ball a strike on the opposite of the plate to Vierling. Tiger’s strike zone is a plate and a half wide.

Which actually was a strike, unlike the one to Carpenter just now

Correct, it could have been (and would have been) a force out.

Ibanez pinch hits with 2 on and 2 out, and swings at three straight balls for a quick end of the inning. The Tigers just don’t have their heads together.
