Game 40 Houston Astros @ Detroit Tigers May 12, 2024 1:40 p.m.

Take out Flaherty because Hinch doesn't like guys getting 100 pitches, apparently. Hit, Hit, Hit now 4-0.

He didn't want to walk him. I'm sure he missed his mark but don't fall behind 3 and 0 and he won't have that problem.
Well, for a contrast, Verlander got in the same count in almost the same situation (two outs instead of one), took no chances of the same thing happening and issued the walk, then made it a bit worse by hitting someone, but still pitched out of it. Perhaps taking the risk of a bb when their hottest home run hitter is up there might have worked out better. But of course, hindsight is 20-20.

AJ is just brutal with his first guy out of the pen decisions lately.
Actually, the first guy out of the pen has done well all week; it's the second or third guy out that has done damage. Of course, outside of the 2nd inning yesterday, the real damage has been done by the dormant offense.

Dormant offense is the new name for the Tigers.

Also Pistons really are cursed. They fell to #5 in the draft.
Really.. come on NBA tell me you are not rigged.

Entering today's game, Colt Keith was hitting .208 against fastballs, but he had a .308 expected batting average against fastballs. More fastball data: .229 slugging percentage, .499 expected slugging percentage.
Another good swing from Colt Keith. He pulled an up-and-in 93.2 mph fastball from Justin Verlander for a 383-foot flyout to the deepest part of the ballpark in right-center field. 103.8 mph exit velocity. Keith has been locked in recently. Expecting him to take off soon.

Tarik Skubal's 5.1 fWAR ranks FIRST among all MLB pitchers since his July 2023 return from flexor tendon surgery, a stretch of 23 starts. (Zack Wheeler, Tyler Glasnow tied for second, at 4.3 fWAR.)In those 23 starts, Skubal has a 2.51 ERA with 162 strikeouts over 129⅓ innings.

Detroit Tigers reward Akil Baddoo with call-up after mechanical change with hands in Toledo.

A.J. Hinch said Matt Manning will start for the Tigers tomorrow.Kenta Maeda is also ill to the point he did not report today and hasn't played catch in a couple of days. Hinch said "there clearly will be a rehab assignment" before Maeda comes back from the IL.

Verlander is 4 - 1 with a 1.88 ERA in 5 visits to Comerica since being traded, striking out 39 batters in 31 innings. Looks like he toyed with the Tigers lineup, 2 measly hits.

Benetti can be such a homerish dork. After a run "well you never know." Lol. We're not scoring 8 Benetti.
