I don't know. But I'm sure he will have a strong opinion regarding his mode of transportation either way, while others will have equally strong, but opposing opinions. they will all get angry with eachother and argue about it.

I have everything I need, but not concerned about the Mayan 2012 end of civilization theory. I'm more concerned with Obuma the "peace maker" starting a war with Iran, China, and Russia. Maybe that's part of the Apocolypse?

LMAO.

Yeah, the US is on the brink of war with Iran, China (a superflous comma) and Russia.

Instability within Iran and some nutjob not named Akmejinidad(sp) doing something is certainly a threat but I can make a pretty solid argument for why both China & Russia don't want trouble in Iran and I got the argument from the former head of the CIA.

But, back to the Mayan calendar .....

I DISAGREE WHOLE-HEARTEDLY WITH YOU, VIC!

The comma is not "superflous," and, btw, it's spelled "superfluous."

I would describe Vic's writing style as journalistic.

I would say Vic's posts are concise, specific and journalistic.

And not superfluous.

And not even the indication that the comma (i.e., "superfluous comma") is superfluous is superfluous.

Just saying.

Perhaps we should convene a panel of the best, brightest, and most brilliant in the country and discuss it. Oh wait, we already have that panel, it's called the Detroit Sports board.

So, when is everyone available?? I'll bring the chips.

There's no 5 second clip starting from 8:48, but if there was, that's what I'd like to post.

I agree. The Oxford Comma is necessary.

I don't understand how anyone can honestly claim it isn't, but I suspect it's another idiotic feature of the rampant anti-intellectualism in this country.

Some dipshit heard there was a dispute over the use of the Oxford Comma (aka, serial comma, or Harvard comma), and figured "Oxford" sounded a little too high brow and European for him, so he could do without. The problem is the oxford comma has a legitimate function, as shown above, and the dispute is really more about using clear language than it is about trying to appear elitist.

The funny thing about calling it the Oxford comma is it's lack of use being the norm in England.

well, that would be fitting, since anti-intellectuals never really get appraised of all the facts before jumping to a conclusion.

If they did, they'd become... well... intellectuals. Or self-loathing ones.

what if it actually referred to Oxford, MS, the "literary capital of the South"?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, yeah, that's hilarious, Ricky Gervais uses that one in his standup routine a lot.

I didn't know that. Now I want to see some Gervais standup. I figured out the Oxford thing because I sometimes edit papers for a native Chinese speaker that went to college in England. When I run across something funny, I never know if it's part of the lexicon of his field, if it's British, or if it's just wrong.

What the hell does the comma have to do with end of the world?

Guns, Food, and Honda Civics.

That is a great guess. But I googled it and apparently it's the Oxford University Press standard. Even recent rumors about them dropping it are false.
