2013 Tigers lineup

i think its way too early to be speculating on the lineup, mostly because im hoping we get 2 corner outfielders. in any case, i would hit victor 2nd and not 5th. he's an on-base machine with not a ton of home-run power at this point in his career, 2nd would be the perfect spot for him.

I'd give Dirks a shot 1st...would be nice to have some speed to move around on Cabrera/Fielder knocks. Not to mention Victor hitting in the 5 adds protection for Prince. The guy hit like .400+ after a Cabrera BB last year and may have hit even better with RISP.

I like Dirks there too if he continues to hit around .300. I have my doubts that will happen.

all things considered, if dirks is still starting, my top 5 would be ajax, vmart, dirks, cabrera, and prince in that order. protection is a myth and the 3-hole isnt as important as the rest of the top 5 spots. speed is also not as important at the top of the lineup. its nice, but having the better hitters there is the better plan.

the rest of the lineup (and indeed the top 5 spots as well) would really depend on who we have playing in the corner spots and at SS next year (if DD really was trying to get rid of peralta for drew before the deadline, i think he wants to go a different direction at SS if he can in the offseason).

in all honesty though, i dont want dirks continuing to start. i just dont see him keeping up this pace, he never walks and he's currently being sustained by a .383 BABIP which he likely wont sustain. he'd be a good 4th outfielder, but if he's starting we might have issues.

I agree on Dirks but if he is still hitting you leave him there I believe. I don't like pushing Fielder back to 5 and I also believe in protection. I'm definitely giving Fielder a better quality of pitches if I'm down 1-0 with V mart beind him...especially if Cabby is on in front. You can't afford to dick around at all with a guy raking behind him. Like I said though, I think you give Dirks a shot and if he doesn't produce you may have to throw VMart there. We'll also have to see what happens with Infante.

I think people are bitten by the Trout bug.

Nick is probably not close enough to even make the 2013 Tigers let alone start. I'd hope we let him develop more, get his power stroke working better, and shore up his defense before throwing him to the wolves.

I wouldn't be at all surprised, or upset, if Castellanos does not even make Sept. callups when the rosters expand.

???? So what are you going to do with Victor? And you also want to piss off Prince in his 2nd year of his contract? He signed with the Tigers to play 1st base, then you're going to replace him with a Rookie whose never played first? Pretty horrible comment.

no kidding, I meant I want to see him play at the major league level, not 1st ****ing base. but it was worth the lol for

That makes better sense. I dont think he's ready yet to be a corner outfielder for the Tigers. Still K's a lot and low BB. Still trying to find power, and his defense is not where it needs to be. I think the Tigers would be wise to find a veteran who has power and good defense. Bring Nick up mid-season or 2014.
