2014 Free Agents

I guess but watching him get picked off first so many times tells me he can;t read a pitcher for shit.

On the other hand take Berry....who had only 1 useful baseball skill to his name, and that was he could tell if a pitcher was getting ready to deliver, throw over or fart. I don't think those instincts can be taught.

I seem to remember something about QB getting basestealing tips from Rickey Henderson, or some other all-time great base stealer in the minors.

I can agree with Thumb on this, yeah I know a first. He'll probably change his mind now.

Just get some good relievers and during ST name one the closer. Problem solved.

not a first, but there will probably be a blue moon tonight. >:D

Not horrible for a guy who will be their set-up man. Cheaper than Benoit was for us, and arguably a better pitcher.

Comparing the season's they had before we paid Benoit 3/16.5 and Joe Smith's year before he just got 3/16 is laughable.

Benoit had a 6.81 K to BB ratio in 2010. Held Lefties to .144 AVG and Righties to a .150 AVG and had an ERA of 1.34 and a WHIP of 0.68

Compare that to Joe Smith whom had a 2.34 K to BB ratio. Held Lefties to a .227 AVG and Righties to a .242 AVG and had an ERA of 2.29 with a 1.22 WHIP.

Benoit also had a limited time of success. We were giving him that money based off of one great year. Regardless of splits and ratios, Smith's past 3 years have been very good.

Benoit was good for us in 2013. But 2012 he wasn't that great of a pitcher. 14 homeruns given up in 71 innings is not good for a relief pitcher.

I am just worried if DD resigns him which version of Benoit are we going to get the 2012 or 2013.

Benoit coming back will be a long shot now considering he closed games for us the 2nd half last year and now is in the market for closer value. He is said to now be looking for 2 years 16-20 million which will probably put himself outta Tiger's price range for what would more than likely be a setup role.

I'd say that depends on whether or not we can sign a closer. If all else fails, DD may have to bring Benoit back.

I never thought we resign Coke back. So anything is possible. Apparently there must be a shortage on average RP who are left handed.

Parts of 2012 Benoit was as lights out as any pitcher. Every relief pitcher, much like starters, have a bad game here and there. Benoit was like that in 2012.

June 30th, July 14th, August 5th, 9th, September 12th, 29th. 6 times in 73 appearances he gave up more than 1 earned run in a non-closer role. In those 6 games, we lost twice.

Either version of Benoit (2011,2012,2013) is still the best RP we have had in some time.

Did one of his "tips" focus on the fact that anything under a 70% success rate actually hurts the team?

idk, it was Lopes as Rebbiv said.
If it had been Rickey, he would have said in the third person.
