2020 - 2021 Free Agents and Offseason Moves

At this point it appears that the Tigers' braintrust intends to roll w/o signing one year deals with any bargain bin FAa. I was hoping that they might resign at least 2 of the 3 from last shortened season in Romine and Schoop or Cron, who could have shared duties @ DH and 1B w/Miggy, but nope. Their catching looks to be VERY weak offensively and adequate @ best defensively. LF still a black hole of suck. Maybe they are counting on their SP roto and BP to be lights out for most of next season?

I don't think the bargain bin FA signing period has even started. Heck, there haven't been very many signings at all.

According to ESPN, there are 301 free agents. 31 have signed major league contracts and 12 were signed to minor league contracts.

8 of the top 43 have been signed. I am almost positive that none of those were in the Tigers sights. Only 5 players have signed that rank between 44-124. All three of the guys you mention are in that group.

Don't really care who and when other ballclubs sign FAs, since the Tigers obviously aren't going to compete even for those within the middle tier and there aren't that many others who only will scrape the very bottom of the barrel. All 3 who I posted were signed in December of '19, and awhile before anyone knew what was about to turn both amateur and pro sports on their collective heads.

The Tigers also seem unlikely to sign any FA pitching, except for maybe in trade for an obscure RP or two. I just am going by what my gut feeling is, and b/c of their new manager and his staff, who the Tigers' brass may feel will do a better job with "internal" options for position players, as well as their pitching staff.

I think they will sign another starter...but nobody good. They need some bodies.

I only posted what other teams have signed to display that nobody is signing players and that there are still a lot of free agents available...even in the bargain bin where the Tigers should be shopping.

The Tigers have signed the following players to Minor League contracts:
INF Isrrael De La Cruz
RHP A.J. Ladwig
RHP Henry Martinez
RHP Zac Shepherd
