The PODcast crew recaps Day 1 of Lions free agency.

It was a slow start to free agency for the Detroit Lions, but before the night was through, they had made a significant impact.

Around the NFL, it was a busy day from morning until the last few minutes of the night. The league saw the most franchise tagged players in several years, there were a handful of blockbuster trades agreed to, and, of course, some of the best talent this free agency class has to offer found new homes on Monday.

So to recap it all, specifically with a focus on the Detroit Lions, we got together for an EMERGENCY PODCAST to break down our initial thoughts of free agency Day 1.

The podcast was recorded before the midnight news regarding Nick Williams, so we focus on the signings of OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai and linebacker Jamie Collins Sr. Where do they fit? Did Detroit get good value on their contracts? What will the Lions do next?

Halapoulivaati Vaitai is $50mm over 5 years, with $20mm guaranteed, all in the first two years. So the Lions can walk after two. That's honestly not as bad as I thought.

Interesting that the Lions didn’t get involved given our reported interest last year.
Even if we don’t trade Slay, and even if we draft Okudah, they still need to add a guy capable of being the #2 CB here.
Logan Ryan makes a lot of sense and he’s still out there.

The Lions did not pick up the RFA tenders on J.D. McKissic or Jamie Meder. They become free agents.

This puts Darius Slay’s future in Detroit in question. The #Lions have discussed trading him.

Decent player if he can stay healthy. Detroit stays consistent with just handing out 10mil a year to everyone with a heartbeat.

Slay is gone. I don't think this team has gotten better with these moves. Well hopefully after another terrible year the will get rid of Quinntricia.
