2024 Election

So, the financial markets are substantially up today, likely in response to the ?historic? budget deal - we have long heard that there?s nothing the markets ?like? less than uncertainty.

So who gets credit? The President Joe Biden? Or the HOR Republican majority, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy?

the billionaires that have the outcome they want, while making it appear to be the result of a compromise between two political parties, when in fact this was the intention of both sides all along, with a few exceptions.

I can't wait to hear liberal friends tell me they wanted to start making their student loan payments again, and so what Biden did is good actually...

Biden hasn't done anything to reverse course yet and he's already said he plans to veto the bill that just passed in the house and senate.

hard to say what's driving it - there was a pretty solid jobs number that came out this morning and the debt ceiling stuff was resolved yesterday.

I'm a little surprised the market is up as much as it is since we're supposedly in a "good news is bad news" phase - strong jobs report is normally a negative signal for inflation, which is a negative signal for interest rates which isn't great for the stock market.

To start the day, the market was pricing in a 40% chance of a rate hike at the June meeting - this report should increase that probability at least a little bit - definitely won't bring it down. And yet here we are rallying on a Friday which is normally a risk off day.

Short sellers covering their positions could be fueling this rally and swamping the jobs report effect.

It?ll give back all the gains next week as the treasury needs to sell a trillion in t-bills interest rates on savers and t-bills will flow $ out of the market now for the typical summer market doldrums. AI hype while potential real is still massively overbought here. natural gas prices at historic lows

Right wing media and politicians want to keep their voters outraged over the latest culture war so they don't start expecting them to actually do anything to make life better for people.

Sure would be nice if republicans cared more about health care, social security and infrastructure than LGTBQ, book bans and renaming military bases.

You do know libtards like book bans too, don?t you?.

I like the bipartisanship we just saw out of Washington. Nobody got everything they wanted, and strident partisans on both sides (like you) are really not happy.

I don?t know much about the renaming of military bases, from what I?ve heard the changed are primarily due to renaming bases that were named after Confederate generals.

Trying to compare updating books and other media that are full of racial slurs that are no longer accepted to banning books simply for mentioning gay people and other minorities is not even close to being the same thing.

true. but re-naming bases that were named for treasonous slave owners is at least something.

they should've all be re-named after Union generals though.

Why not?

Fort Grant sounds good.

Were there any other Union Generals?

EDIT: How about Fort Harper Lee or Fort Mark Twain?

They weren?t Union generals but they seemed like pretty good eggs.

Yeah.

Right.

Have you ever heard of rap music?

Both Harper Lee and Mark Twain used a word, that is still commonly used, during a different time, to decry racism.

LOL, what? So your argument is because rap music exists, Republicans can't possibly be racist?

Sure, okay.

Good to know what the boards second smartest fascist thinks on the topics of the day. You have almost as solid a grasp of the facts as your mentor. If you can?t agree that a book with graphic depictions of sex acts and information on apps to find a hook-up partner in your area doesn?t belong in a middle school library, you?re on the wrong side. Yelling ?book ban? isn?t going to get it done - the only people that works on have already chugged the same kool-aid.

Same with every other issue - just because the opposition doesn?t support nationalizing healthcare and increasing social welfare programs doesn?t mean they don?t care about those things. Arguing like a 6 year only works on people that are already convinced of the same nonsense.

Would you be on board if they renamed Bragg to Fort Levine or Fort Mulvaney? Has their been an American as brave as either of those two dudes in the last 250 years?

I?m pretty sure out friend Johnny doesn?t know Fort Bragg was named after a Confederate soldier.

I would be fine if it was named Fort Byrd, after a brave Capitol police officer who defended this country on January 6, 2021.

Out here in blue as blue can be Cali, shockingly, some parents don?t want their kids being taught - or preached to - about sexuality in school.

I guess they must be amongst the few Republitards who haven?t left for Florida yet.

EDIT: We pretty much have nationalized healthcare, for the most part.

Going back to 1965.

As I?ve said 100 times, we?ve been a social democracy for a long, long time.

Yet I wake up every morning and the sun also rises.

Enter the Great Linda Rondstadt.

She was California Governor Jerry Brown?s girlfriend a long long time ago.

But then Dems might think it was named after the virulently racist Dem senator who was a mentor to both Clinton?s and the current POTUS. Oh wait, they?d be totally fine with that.

If only democrats cared as much about things like crime, protecting women and children, liberty and fiscal responsibility as they do about keeping kids out of school, politicizing and weaponizing entire branches of government, silencing the opposition, dividing us by race, mutilating healthy minors and enriching big pharma billionaires.

I would educate them all that it was actually the racist black cop who murdered the freedom fighter Ashli Babbit.

One thing?s for sure - johnny ain?t gonna pick up on this at all.

That's a lot of Fox "News" talking points in one post.
