hard to say what's driving it - there was a pretty solid jobs number that came out this morning and the debt ceiling stuff was resolved yesterday.

I'm a little surprised the market is up as much as it is since we're supposedly in a "good news is bad news" phase - strong jobs report is normally a negative signal for inflation, which is a negative signal for interest rates which isn't great for the stock market.

To start the day, the market was pricing in a 40% chance of a rate hike at the June meeting - this report should increase that probability at least a little bit - definitely won't bring it down. And yet here we are rallying on a Friday which is normally a risk off day.

Short sellers covering their positions could be fueling this rally and swamping the jobs report effect.

It?ll give back all the gains next week as the treasury needs to sell a trillion in t-bills interest rates on savers and t-bills will flow $ out of the market now for the typical summer market doldrums.
