I expect that the GOP debate last night was on par with the seven debates staged by Lincoln and Douglas in 1858.

I mean, we, as a people, are so much more intellectually advanced than that primitive society of the 19th century. In full, disclosure, the "rabble" didn't elect US Senators then; they were elected by the respective states' General Assemblies.

The people first elected senators by popular vote (17th Amendment) in that watershed year of demise of 1913, the same year that the 16th Amendment was passed and the Federal Reserve was established.
