The one that got away. If I could punch Harbaugh in the face for just one thing, it would be this. For those of you who have forgotten. Dillon was our highest rated running back for the class of 2017(ranked 20th in the country). He was told he would be given his chance at running back, but as time(in the fall) went by, there were grumblings that the staff preferred him at linebacker. At this same time the Wolverines were pursuing Najee Harris out of California(who eventually went to Bama). The Wolverines also had a commitment from O'maury Samuels, who, at this time, there grumblings of him looking around and going on some official visits. His SPARQ scores lit it up and he was getting looks from all over. Dillon on the other hand was very firm to Michigan. He also had an outstanding SPARQ score plus the measurables to back it up. Legit 6'1 and 235lbs and the kids film backed up that he was a really good back. I was telling everyone at the time this was a bad deal. Well, the bad deal turned worse and he eventually decommitted and went to BC. Last fall Dillon went on to become everything we have been wanting in a running back.

2017 (FRESHMAN): ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year, the first BC player to win either award ? finished the season with 1,589 rushing yards, seventh nationally and second among all freshmen nationally ? FWAA Freshman All-American, the first Eagle to be named to the FWAA team since Luke Kuechly in 2009 ? ESPN.com Freshman All-American ? 1,589 rushing yards were the most by any freshman in BC history and second in ACC history ? fourth in Boston College single-season history with 1,589 rushing yards ? rushed for 1,256 rushing yards over the last seven games, the most of any player in the country ? tied for the most All-ACC votes with former Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson en route to All-ACC first team honors ? four games of 190+ yards of rushing ? recipient of the 79th annual George "Bulger" Lowe Award, "New England's Heisman Trophy" and one of America's oldest college football accolades ? first career touchdown at No. 2 Clemson (9/23/17) ? first BC true freshman running back since 2014 to rush for 100 yards in a game with his 120 yards against Central Michigan (9/30/17) ? breakout performance in the win at Louisville (10/14/17) where he rushed for 272 yards and four touchdowns on 39 carries (all career-highs) ? named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week for games on Oct. 14, becoming the fifth BC player since 2004 to earn the honor ? named ACC Rookie of the Week and Co-Offensive Back of the Week for his efforts in the win at Louisville ? 272 yards rushing were the seventh-highest single-game total nationally in 2017 and the most by a true freshman ? set a BC freshman record with 272 yards and the third-highest single-game total in school history ? in ACC history, the 11th-best rushing day and the second-most yards ever in a game by a freshman ? four rushing touchdowns tied for third in BC single-game history while the 39 carries are tied for the fifth-most in BC single-game history ? scored on a career-long 75-yard touchdown run in which he stiff armed a defender to go the distance ? third career 100-yard game with 149 rushing yards and a touchdown in the 35-3 win over Florida State (10/27/17) ? 196 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown run, against No. 23 NC State (11/11/17) ? became the first BC player to go over 1,000 yards rushing in a season since 2014 after his 196 yards against the Wolfpack ? 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win against UConn at Fenway Park (11/18/17) ? three touchdowns and 193 yards rushing on 23 carries in the 42-14 win over Syracuse (11/25/17) ? rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl against Iowa (12/27/17), his seventh 100-yard game of the season.

On to 2018, so far Dillon has rushed for 98 yds against UMASS in 2 quarters of play before sitting the rest of the game, 149yds and 3tds in half of the 1st quarter against Holy Cross before sitting, and 185yds in a full game against Wake Forest. He is 59 for 432 with a 7.2yd avg. and 4tds.

I know its beating a dead horse, but I really wanted this kid. Looking at the finer points, our only good back right now is Higdon. Great quickness, but he even has trouble finding holes and Im not going to mention the horrendous blocking of ALL the backs. If there is one thing a former linebacker, who plays tailback, can do, is fucking block. And we are missing it in spades. Jimmy missed big time on Dillon. Hopefully we can keep this Charbonnet kid, because he looks every bit like Dillon. Same measurables(6'2" 230) and a little better speed. Please, do not tell him he's playing linebacker!!!!!!

Yeah we can never land a good running back anymore so I am sure our staff will mess up the recruiting of Charbonnet and Gray. Heck why would any running back want to come to Michigan with the line we have right now ? Ed better get them to play better soon!!!

You know, the one thing that is common with most good decent lineman, is that they are usually the smartest guys on the team. No bullshit, both places I played the Oline always had the highest gpa. I think it directly correlates to them knowing the plays, who to block, the snap cadence, and discipline. Are we not going after smart lineman or are we going after the ones that are barely making it? Or are they the smart ones with bad coaching through the years?

Yeah I can believe that. I just do not know what we are doing but it is taking longer then we all had hope for under Jim. I sure hope jim can turn it around soon. I do not want to go through another new coach.

Yeah. I've seen descriptions of Ruiz as a smart guy, but I've got this completely baseless stereotype of IMG academy that makes me think we shouldn't generally go after linemen from there for that reason.

Yeah, thats the first thing that comes to my mind, also. It's a perception that they dont go there to do their homework.

they're getting into Michigan...shouldn't they all be really smart?

I've always heard and read that the QB's are the smartest guys on the field

I think that any one of our backs would probably have similar days against UMASS, Holy Cross, and Wake Forest...

From what I've read on Dillon is that he didn't want to go to a crowded backfield. He wanted to be told that he was the man from day 1. That just isn't going to happen with anyone at Michigan and I'm fine with that. Come in and win the starting job. Don't expect it to be handed to you, because you were good in high school.

Not true, they wanted try him at linebacker https://mgoblog.com/content/exit-aj-dillon. And no I dont think any of our backs do the same. He played HALF of the 1st quarter against Holy Cross and still ran for 149yds and 3 scores. And remind me how good our backs did against Iowa.....any year. He ran over them for 157 in the bowl game. He ran over FSU for 149, over Louisville for 272, and over NC State for 193. I knew the teams would come into question, but he is consistent and not missing for multiple games. I read an article where he became the lead back after the Louisville game. He then proceeded to rush for more yards than any other back for the last 7 games of the year. My point, that im still pissed about, is that it was a clusterfuck on the coaches part and Dillon was ours to lose. Looking at his tape, I see nowhere where linebacker even enters a coaches mind, but whatever. Lets keep this Charbonnet kid. Tell him he starts day one, I dont give rats ass if you're lying. Tell all the top kids they'll start.

I really don't think we know what went on behind the scenes.

We don't know that he would've come to Michigan and got any playing time whatsoever. We don't know that he would've run well behind this O-line or any better than any of the other backs on the roster.

We don't know why he chose BC, what Harbaugh told him, or anything that went on. I doubt any Michigan coach has given their side of the story.

But yeah, it's good to vent

Yes, I hope they keep Charbonnet and that he becomes awesome.

When I asked, Purdue was up big and Dillion was averaging 3 ypc against that tough Purdue D.

It's obvious they relaxed after that.
