About that Trump $1M/Warren DNA story going around

so she actually forst claimed it when she was on the faculty at Penn Law School then continued the lie as a tenured faculty member at Harvard and she told this laugher when confronted about it in the more recent past...

Benson went on to state that Warren is attempting to “rip off this band-aid” before embarking on a Presidential bid for 2020.

“This is an embarrassment, right? It’s an embarrassment for her, it’s an embarrassment for anyone in the media who try to pretend like today’s news was good news for her,” Benson declared.

“She wants to get this off the front burner as soon as possible so that when they 2020 race heats up, it’s already old news because there’s no good spin on it.” the reporter added.

“Secondly, if you see the way that she did it in the video, she’s pitting herself against Trump. She’s telling Democratic voters, ‘Either believe my ludicrous spin or you’re with Trump.’” Benson explained.

“She’s appealing, ironically, to tribal politics.” he added

right, it's technically a little over 3%. Considering her ancestor who she identified as being part Cherokee (her great, great, great grandmother) listed herself as white in historical documents and presumably was able to pass herself off as white, you can easily cut that number in half, probably more. It's very likely that she's less native American than the average white American.

Elizabeth Warren isn't kind of an idiot, she is a complete fool. Take Trump completely out of the equation and just review her claims at face value - they're ludicrous. Only an idiot who got caught lying about their heritage to advance their career would double down with something this stupid. Like Trump supporters, the only people who would take her seriously are he most ardent supporters, like the sycophants in the media:

I mean, she's an idiot for handing this to Trump if she's more anti-Trump than pro-herself, but as a self-promotion tool, this will endear her to her own supporters too. In whatever the appropriate imaginary BS units of base support are she probably achieved +10 for Trump and +5 for herself. The fact that I view both more negatively over this is a concern to neither of them.

this is a big part but only part of what makes her a fool. I don't think it's +10, +5 because I don't think it effects either's base. The damage is primarily to her image among fence sitting Dems who are looking for a candidate in the 2020 primaries. it may also hurt her with independent fence sitters who may or may not swing to Trump but maybe they just stay home.

Kamala Harris or Cory Booker could use this just as easily as Trump could.

Donald Trump is a stupid, lying piece of shit. The whole topic is fucking stupid when this jackass lies with every sentence that comes out of his orange face. His grandfather was a pimp who ran whore houses and his father a real estate scammer - his entire brand is a lie and a fraud! Release your tax returns, stop flip-flopping, stop insulting women and people of color and act like a fucking adult and then we can talk about how Elizabeth Warren with her fractional Native American heritage might have garnered her college scholarship money like it did for my friend from Hazel Park who is 10% Cherokee.

He is. But that doesn't make it ok to misrepresent what he said. That's fighting fire with fire. Just checking a few stories, not everyone got it wrong.



Snopes got it wrong, so did CNN, CNBC, thehill.com.



Politifact did make the appropriate distinction.


ABC and CBS did not make the distinction very clearly, but they managed to report it in the stories I saw without flatly saying anything questionable.

did you see the ABC and CBS headlines I posted? Those are pretty flat out questionable. To be fair, the CBS headline was CBS Boston but the ABC was the national outlet.

Yeah. I thought those were ok. Elizabeth did publish evidence of her Native American ancestry. It's not enough to warrant minority status, but she did do what the headlines say.



Saying Trump lied about the $1 million dollar promise or that Trump made a $1 million promise is incorrect. I guess it is savvy on Trump's part to not keep trying to make that argument, since nobody cares to make the distinction, but I'm personally frustrated that that's how the world works and the wisdom of the crowds can't digest a 2-minute statement about a hypothetical situation.
