Abreu released

Good clubhouse guy? Why would you say that? The guy has been complaining about playing time since the snow melted.

The last thing the Tigers need is another fat guy that can't field.

Lol. The club house buffet could be trouble. Too many big guys and not enough food.

Is Abreu any fatter than DY? He's basically a lefty version of DY who he gets on base more and has the ability to steal 20 bases a year. He'd cost the veteran minimum, I believe. Not saying he's the answer, but he kinda makes sense if we are looking to drop DY.

The other things to consider are that he's Venezuelan, has lots of post season experience, and he's a guy Mr. I has wanted since he put on a show in the '05 ASG HR Derby at CoPa.

Can he still steal 20 bases? I agree on getting walks, even now. Put him at 5. He still has some power.

Waste of money at this point. Cut a guy making 6.75 million just to pickup an old veteran who probably isn't as good to pay him another half million?

Don't count on it.

That said if they can actually not pay DY based on his deal, then it might be possible. It is still not an upgrade in quality at this point.

Why not sign Magglio Ordonez? He's Venezuelan, a good clubhouse guy and should have won the MVP in 2007.

The Angels are 6-14. Do you think they'd cut bait on Abreu if he had anything left? Sure, it's possible that some life gets squeezed out of him, but it sure seems unlikely.

Well, they were struggling and sometimes teams try to change things up. They brought up their top prospect in place of Bobby Abreu.

He was making nearly $10mil and playing part-time. I heard he wasn't thrilled with the role he had and made that known. They didn't need him and he didn't want to be there anymore from the sounds of it. That doesn't mean that the situation would be the same everywhere or that he couldn't help somebody though. With the DY debacle going on, he could make sense for us. That's all I'm really saying.

I always liked Bobby A... Great OBP guy...Good on the base paths... But he is older...

Abreu had a .4 WAR last season. He was just a smidgen better than your typical AAAA player. He is simply not very good anymore.

IF DD decides to cut bait with Delmon, Abreu would make sense. He'd fill in nicely for the remainder of the year and then the DH reverts to VMart next year.
Easy, really. Only problem might be with Young. Will dd & jl & Mr I want him? Can't see too many pluses on this unless DY comes across as truly sorry, works hard to combat anti semitism or something in the community & starts hitting well again. Too many ifs for me. Keep it simple: cut DY & sign Abreu. See? That wasn't hard....
