AL Central Watch

Updated

The Tigers are finally tied for 1st place

Fun facts of the day: Cleveland is 12-37 in the 2nd half, they're 2-16 in their last 18, they haven't won a game by more than 4 runs since July 4th

Updated

Tigers fall to 1 game back

Updated the elimination dates, won't see anything til Sunday at the earliest.

Updated

Nothing much to note since Detroit and Chicago lost

Cleveland is now 9-5 against Detroit this season. With 4 games left between the two, the best the Tigers can finish against Cleveland is .500 for the season.

Updated

Tigers remain 1 back, both teams are off tomorrow

Updated

Detroit and Chicago still remain within a game of each other

Updated

Detroit remains at 2 games back. Big series coming up this week between Detroit and Chicago, there are 5 possible outcomes barring postponement,

Chicago wins 4-0, Detroit falls to 6 back
Chicago wins 3-1, Detroit falls to 4 back
Split 2-2, Detroit stays 2 back
Detroit wins 3-1, Tie for first
Detroit wins 4-0, Detroit leads by 2 games

The Tigers need at least a split IMO, or they're going to make it very hard on themselves going forward. The losses lately hasn't helped their push in the WC either, so that may be out of the picture.

Updated

Tigers could tie up the central tomorrow with a win

Cleveland and Minnesota have been eliminated from the wild card

Updated

Detroit remains a game back

Cleveland and Minnesota could be eliminated as early as tomorrow

Updated

I'll add in whatever KC does later

Both Detroit and Chicago win, so they're still 1 game apart...this has also eliminated Cleveland and Minnesota from the central

Updated

Tigers fall to 2 back

Last game between Detroit and Chicago is today

Detroit finishes 8-10 against Cleveland this season

All Central teams are .500 or below for the month of September so far, great showing

Updated

Tigers fall to 3 back in the loss

Detroit finishes their season series with Chicago, winning it 12-6...which may not be good enough

Remaining schedules

Chicago (16 games)
3 @ KC
3 @ LA Angels
3 vs Cleveland
4 vs Tampa
3 @ Cleveland

Detroit (16 games)
3 vs Oakland
3 vs Minnesota
4 vs KC
3 @ Minnesota
3 @ KC

If Chicago goes 14-2 or better the rest of the way, they win the central

If Chicago goes 8-8 the rest of the way, Detroit has to go 12-4 to outright win the Central

If Detroit goes 16-0 the rest of the way, Chicago has to go 12-4 or worse to outright lose the Central

If the two tie, the tiebreaker game will be played in Detroit, and unless things change in the last two weeks of the season, the loser won't be getting a shot in the wild card

Just as a "what if"...if both teams go 2-1 (or 3-1) against teams that are out and 1-2 (or 1-3) against teams with a similar or better record, here's how it will look...

Chicago (16 games)
3 @ KC (2-1)
3 @ LA Angels (1-2)
3 vs Cleveland (2-1)
4 vs Tampa (1-3)
3 @ Cleveland (2-1)
Final: 8-8

Detroit (16 games)
3 vs Oakland (1-2)
3 vs Minnesota (2-1)
4 vs KC (3-1)
3 @ Minnesota (2-1)
3 @ KC (2-1)
Final: 10-6

This would still leave Chicago on top

KC is still clinging to life

Updated

Detroit remains 2 back

KC still clinging to life with that elimination number of 1, they finished 12-6 against Chicago this season

Since another series is in the books I'll put up the remaining series again

Remaining schedules

Chicago (13 games)
3 @ LA Angels
3 vs Cleveland
4 vs Tampa
3 @ Cleveland

Detroit (13 games)
3 vs Minnesota
4 vs KC
3 @ Minnesota
3 @ KC

The Tigers are 2 back with an elimination number of 12

If Chicago finishes 12-1 or better the rest of the way, they win the central

If Chicago goes 7-6/6-7 the rest of the way, Detroit has to go 10-3/9-4 to outright win the central

If Detroit goes 13-0, Chicago has to go 10-3 or worse to lose the central

This weekend series could play a huge role...the Tigers are playing a team they should beat and the Sox are playing another team that's fighting for a playoff spot

Tigers move to half a game back

KC is still barely clinging to life

Chicago is swept by LA

Detroit is swept in their double header with the Twins, remain 1 game back

KC is officially eliminated

What a craptastic Sunday in Detroit

Remaining schedules

Chicago (10 games)
3 vs Cleveland
4 vs Tampa
3 @ Cleveland

Detroit (10 games)
4 vs KC
3 @ Minnesota
3 @ KC

The Tigers are 1 back with an elimination number of 10

If Chicago finishes 10-0 the rest of the way, they win the central

If Chicago goes 5-5 the rest of the way, Detroit has to go 7-3 to outright win the central

If Detroit goes 10-0, Chicago has to go 8-2 or worse to lose the central

Looking like it will come down to the last series to determine the AL central, the way both these teams have been playing
