ESPN talking about how the Yankees tanked verses the Rays but fail to mention the utter lack of play by the Angels...

There are SOME teams that aren't located on or near the East Coast, who ALSO play professional sports?!?

Who knew?

I don't blame any manager for doing what he sincerely thinks is right for his team. In the end, that should be his biggest concern. Joe Girardi absolutely did the right thing last night, there really is no debate. Why would he risk injuring his players when there was nothing left to play for? It makes no sense. His job is to win the World Series, not protect some armchair quarterback's idea of the integrity of the game. He has a team full of aging stars and the season in a grind. I'm sure he thought it was in the best interest of his team to give them a rest heading into the playoffs. As far as the Angels go, they played hard and came up short. If you're mad because they didn't start Weaver, put yourself in his shoes. Better yet, put yourself in Leyland's if the Tigers were in the same situation. Say he runs JV out in game 162, a game that means absolutely nothing, after logging a lot of innings through the season, and he gets hurt. Tigers fans would never forgive him, no matter how many times he said he was trying to protect the integrity of the game.

I can actually see the Yanks arguement over the Angels as far as not playing regs. Why would the Yankees risk an injury to Rivera for example, in a meaningless game for them? The Angels on the other hand should have played their best 8 and pitched Weaver. They were going home after the game anyway. For all the criticizing Leyland gets sometimes, I'd bet he'd play to win that last game.

Really. And I just saw a fan poll on ESPN that reported that 99% of the baseball fan world was tuned in last night primarily to see which division champion was going to get the #2 seed in the AL playoffs, too...

The Angels played poorly against Texas for the same reason they played themselves out of a shot at the wild card down the stretch - they're an inconsistent streaky team, and finished the season on a poor streak.

Well I disagree with not playing to win last night by the Angels..... Baltimore and Philadelphia are prime examples of what was good about baseball last night...

Did you see the Angels line-up last night.... It was a joke... i could care less about the starting pitchers Weaver and Santana.. I could understand not starter both.... But those line-ups Mike sent out there were a joke last night..

I'm sorry but this is baseball, right? September, no chance at playoffs and you play your young guys. Nothing wrong with that. And the Yanks for example were getting their playoff rotation set. As far asnther ineup a joke, we had joke lineups this season. You worry about worthless stuff.

Philly took Ryan Howard out of the game last night after getting hit by a pitch with 7 inches of padding on. No one is calling Charlie Manuel out even though Howard's replacement cam up in a big spot late in that game and popped out.

Yeah tell that to Joe Madden who sent Buck Schowalter a message in Baltimore thanking him for playing hard... hear it is..

Those scrubs were no worse than the regulars had been, who had sucked their way down the stretch out of a possible ticket to the post season.

If our Tigers had beaten Texas one more time head to head, they would have taken care of the business they needed to to secure themselves the #2 seed, instead of needing to rely on help from the suck ass Angels.

Anyway, post season is a whole different ballgame - generally the team with the two consistently hottest starters prevails - almost nothing else matters.

With Verlander, Fister on the road and Scherzer at home, the Tigers go into the post season with as good a chance as anybody, home field or no.

Providing Porcello doesn't decide to really suck.

Give me a break....the scrubs that did not play are Hunter and bobby Abreu... both not having great years but both better then the scrubs the LA threw out there last night...

You give me a break...Hunter and Abreu played Monday while the Angels were still technically fighting for a slot, and the Angels sucked just as much that night as they did last night.

Again, Abreu and Hunter played every day down the stretch, and helped the Angels suck their way out of a shot at the western division title and a shot at the wild card both...

The Tigers are the three seed because the Tigers didn't win one more game during the course of the regular season...not because Torri Hunter and Bobby Abreu didn't start in the 162nd game of the Angels' regular season...

Anyway, right at this moment in time...the Tampa Bay Rays are a better team than the New York Yankees.

So Detroit might have actually caught a break.

We'll see.

Maybe but home field would have been nice in your pocket..

But you don't get to count on Torri Hunter or Bobby Abreu on another team to deliver it to you...
