Another reason not to hire Caldwell

Look at pretty much any other team, Mayhew is no worse than any other GM. They all hit and miss.

living in mediocrity for a 20 year stretch in a league with as much parity as the NFL....is directly on how shitty your GM is. End of story....
its not luck...wind or snow...its not injuries or drops.....its a shit job by your GM.

Depends on your definition of shit, I'd call him average.

I agree schles, with the Lions it's a real sliding scale. To the top teams he'd be shit, the rest he'd be average, with the Lions he's Moses in the reeds.

He's only average if you compare him with Millen, the ultimate shitty GM.

The Seahawks were 4-12 the year we went 0-16.

Since most the bitching seems to focus around mayhew draft record let's look at Seattles for comparison sake, I'm only look at first four rounds, since Amy player that is great after that it means all GMs missed and doesnt help your point anyways.

2008
1st - LoJack - not on the team - below avg
2nd - John Carlson - off team
4th - Red Bryant - solid pick

2009
1st - Aaron Curry - off team
2nd - Max Unger - solid pick
3rd - Deon Butler - off team

2010
1st - Okung/Thomas - both great picks
2nd - Tate - avg at best WR
4th - Walter Thurmond - backup

2011
1st - James Carpenter - ok not 1st round quality
3rd - John Moffitt - out of league
4th - Kj Wright/Kris Durham - Solid/well it's Durham

2012
1st Bruce Irvin - drug user/TBD
2nd - Bobby Wagner - great pick
3rd - Russell Wison - jury still out
4th - Robert Turbin/Howard - backup/off team

2013
2nd - Chistine Michael - 3 games
3rd - Jordan Hill - 4 games
4th - Chris Harpe - off team

Seattle's biggest advantage was they didn't have big contracts like we do with our top 3. Amazing depth, I mean Avril is a backup. They were able to sign a bunch of guys last off-season because of it..we don't have that.

that's not really the entire story and a lot of the poor picks were prior to the carrol regime being there. If you agree the defense is their strength well they drafted:

Bryant
Mebane
Irvin
Wagner
Smith
Sherman
Chancellor
Thomas
Maxwell

all who were starters this year. I also give them credit for Browner who they got from the CFL and was undrafted with his only stint being the preseason for the broncos.

If you agree the strength of their offense is the run game....well they drafted 4/5 of their starting oline.

You don't count the late rounds? Why? That's where scouting is at its most crucial? Backups? They're backups on a Super Bowl Roster! Here they would be gods of Detroit! Singing their praise. Don't forget Trades and FA's where the Mayhew lovers think he's the stud of all studs. Just off the top of my head...A guy named Beastmode ring a bell? We get Houston we have a problem...FA... Michael Bennett? What? we signed some guy name Jason Jones, the Seahawks kicked him to the curb because he didn't have the talent for their line, he promptly went down with a jammer. One man's trash I guess. Russell Wilson - the jury is still out...You have to be shrooming. Do you think they'll take Stafford for him straight up? What's the jury like on Stafford? That movie where they kidnap Demi Moore's son? LOL WOW your post is all kinds of hilarious. You should have just stopped your thought process when the idea Lions = Seahawks came into your head.

Nice job naming Houston as a guy Mayhew brought in. Probably our worse defender on the team......too funny. I think you're forgetting some solid names he's brought in, like Sims, KVB, Tulloch, Burleson just to name a few. Raping the Cowboys in the Roy Williams trade was a thing of beauty as well.

As for Jason Jones. He's not just "some" guy. He's a solid football player. He has talent, became a FA and came home to be a Detroit Lion.

You keep screaming about all this talent yet we're 11-21 in the last two years. So, ah why?

They're talented but undisciplined. Think real hard about it, Mitch. You can have all the talent in the world but if you're an undisciplined team, you'll lose the majority of the time. It's not rocket science....

Bennett was an injury risk too which is why bucs let him go and is a free agent after a one year deal. Jones didn't hold up, Bennett did. But jones two years left. Must be the peds Sherman and browner use

For the Roy Williams trade we got Droptimus Prime and the guy who serves me my Moon over Mihammy at the Mt. Pleasant Dennys.

Two more years over overpaying a aged vet with one wheel! Wheee! Yeah we lucked out on that one. We signed the guy because he played for the Titans with Schwartz.

So what? Mayhew raped the Cowboys regardless. Roy Williams was done and everybody knew it except Double J. That trade was a joke and you know it.

So what? I could really go for a Moon over Mihammy right now...that's so what.

Cheap contact for jones. Avril contract jumps after being backloaded and time to pay Bennett. Sherman and Wilson soon too.

They don't need Sidney rice luckily and can use Chris Clemons money for some of that

Geez and all they get out of it is a SB appearance. Must be hell over there right now.

Seattle didn't have old cba shit causing 4 restructures. Mayhew did all he could do in 2012 just to keep avril tulloch levy Sammie lee hill Backus and Shaun hill. That took up all the money.

Drafted starting lt and nickel and decent lb and cb depth. Broyles injured or slot wr too
