Whomever the new coach is, if he brought back Norv Turner and they reignited the offense to what it was? Just curious if the hatred many had toward him has been readjusted due to more current production levels.

Turner as OC and Austin as DC could be very good provided they have talented players. They both have shown the ability to coordinate top 5-10 level of production, so with the right players they could have a high ceiling.

Just need a good coach to oversee the whole.

Why would he leave Min for us? Min is Better at almost every position except WR.

Good point, was just bouncing a name out into the ether.

And more importantly how could Austin as DC be very good? Fire his ass.

+1

Austin got a lot of credit last season for taking over a defense ripe with first round talent and getting it to perform.

Now he's been handed the same defense, a year older, with an 8 time ProBowler, and it's a shitshow.

It's clear to me Suh and Fairley made Austin, not the other way around. He was a hot name for head coaching jobs in the off-season, and I am not at all surprised he didn't get any offers, just Rooney Rule interviews.

I don't even care who the coaches are now. Keep Caldwell if you want, doesn't bother me a bit Martha.

And why?

Because I have decided from now on I am turning off the volume on my TV and putting "Yakety Sax" on loop. I'll bet the entire game becomes so much more entertaining.

I'm thinking of adding in a laugh track too.

I want Martha to come in like Mr. Burns and coach them up 40s style.

Ink, not only Suh and Fairley are missing from last year. Austin maybe has 3/4 the talent from last year, and that is generous. Every player other than Ansah is playing worse. When he had top 5 talent, he coached it up to that level unlike previous DC. If Austin had been on Schwartz staff, chances are good Schwartz is still coach, Lions gave consecutive winning seasons, and even win in the playoffs.

They got rid of an OC who produced top 10 offenses and next regime has produced top 10 defense. They need coaches capable of both at same time, so why get rid of one when you have them?

Plenty of coaches gave proven incapable of coaching up talented players. The lack of D talent isn't Austin's fault.

3/4 the talent, 1/10 the result.

That is a likely result. That means there is 1/4 weaknesses for opponent to exploit.

The opponent is trying to win too, right? If there is an exploitable weakness, they are going to exploit it. That likely will result in players trying to do more than their assignment, which actually exposes them in the process.

Lynch was talking about this, that the talent isn't there to work with. Add in the offense constantly not keeping the ball which results in D getting tired out, and after enough games like that there becomes a mental component that compounds the lack of talent.

No Levy, Suh, Fairley. Mathis and Tuloch showing their age like many said they would. Looks like last season might have been a fluke for Ihedigbo.

I'm not saying Austin is a great coach, hell I'm not even saying he shouldn't be fired. But this defense is not close to last season's roster.

No way to argue that we don't have Levy, Suh, or Fairley.

But Mathis and Tulloch showing their age, or just poorly coached? Bad system?

Was last season the fluke for Ihedigbo, or is this season the fluke?

I think Austin was propped up by a great D-Line, which is the very first piece in the puzzle for a defense. Without it, Austin's bag of tricks is coming up empty.

Maybe there was a good reason out entire D-line that could leave, did.. and as fast as possible.

+1 stop gap Mathis shouldn't have lasted this long. Tulloch fell off as well as ihedigbo. At linebacker we probably have 2 of the worst starting linebackers in the league in Bynes/Lewis. Dline has one good starter. Secondary has two. Even though slay has had a rough year. I count 3 capable players on this defense. 4 with levy.

I just don't buy it. I didn't buy into Austin as a "defensive genius" a year ago, and I don't buy into "the players got old and fell apart" this season.

I still think he's just a shitty coordinator who got lucky with a great D-line last season.

Fairly played little last year.. But even if it's because of lost talent, the DC needs to get defense to play better than they did today. Or last week, the week before and the week before that.
