Are We Done?

Kind of my thoughts too. I feel like this article and short arm stuff is getting blown way out of proportion. Give the man a chance to fail before you decide he can't succeed.

Some very good LT have had short arms..

Joe Thomas - 32?-inch arm length
Jordan Gross - 33? inch arm length
Jason Peters - 33⅛ inch arm length
Jammal Brown - 34? inch arm length
Jake Long - 32⅞ inch arm length
Ryan Clady - 36? inch arm length
D’Brickashaw Ferguson - 35? inch arm length
Alex Barron - 37 inch arm length
Orlando Pace - 36? inch arm length
Branden Albert - 33⅞ inch arm length

Interesting. Long and Thomas both have T. rex arms.

Reiff started and played well vs the Vikings when Backus missed is lone game this past season....He can handle the LT job.

If we pencil in Reiff at LT and cross our fingers that one of Hilliard and Fox can be an NFL-starter-worthy RT, I'd probably go Milliner (CB) in the first, Hunt (DE) in the second, then Warford (G) in the 3rd... assuming they all fell to us there. I think we've done well in FA so far, but this team still has lots of holes that aren't going to get solved in one offseason. It sure would be nice if they could get Stafford's deal restructured to give us room to get us some more FA help in the secondary, DEs, OL, LB, and/or WR depth.

So he's the same as Gross and longer than Peters, Thomas, and Long. Not terrible company...

In my very uneducated opinion, Hiliard played very well at RT in 2011 when Cherilus was hurt. If memory serves, he actually played well enough to see an improvement in the overall run game..

I actually like Hilliard better than Cherilus. I think he can man the RT spot with no problems.

Now, if we can just sign a low cost RG with starting experience, maybe a Geoff Schwartz type guy, we aren't handcuffed going into the draft.

Warford won't last til the third. Maybe Kyle Long.

33" arms are nearly the average in the NFL now. It might be 33 1/4" like Reiff, or 33 1/8 like Levi Brown, but the one thing we would have to agree on is that arm length is really not an indicator of how well a LT can play when you are between 32-34".

Sure, a guy with 37" arms has an advantage, but it's a measurable. Kind of like being a 6'5" WR. It helps a guy like Calvin. Is Kris Durham going to break records just because he's tall? Not likely.

Some of today's best LTs actually have shorter arms than the magic 34" mark. If you are banking your QB's health on 3/4" of an inch of additional separation... you are probably already in a whole lot of trouble.

Agreed 100%. I thought Hilliard was fine as RT when Goz was out. Not sure how that would project over a full season, but I'm WAY more confident in him than in Fox right now. I'm with you on the FA guard idea too. If we were able to grab one there, it would give us the ability to address some of the other needs we've got. I'd be all for us grabbing a FA WR to add to the mix too and still drafting a guy like Warford in the 3rd. Gotta fill those spots one way or the other, and starting NFL talent is gonna start to get a little thin after about round #3.

I've seen him mocked mostly at the top to mid second
Could be... I think Warmack and Cooper were ahead of him in most mocks and rankings I've seen. You don't typically see a lot of guards picked in the first two rounds, so there's a chance one of them is still there at the top of the third.

Warmack will probably go around 15-20 and cooper is mocked at the mid to late 1st. Good year for guards.

I'd be all about taking Long too. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more attention with his pedigree and where he goes to school. Milliner/Hunt/Long would be an awesome first three picks.

think id take a shot at barret jones in rd 3 for his versatility and at the least our center of the future although right now i think i still want us filling our OLB starter with our rd 3 pick. Who knows....if we dont sign a DE we may need to double up on DE early. Milliner/Hunt/Okafor could end up being our top 3 picks lol.

Osi Umenyiora - DL - Giants

MLive.com reports the Lions' supposed interest in free agent Osi Umenyiora is "probably not true."

GM Martin Mayhew says the team is no longer pursuing anymore premier free agents. Mayhew added that the Lions could look into re-signing free agent DE Lawrence Jackson, but they'd likely hold off until after the draft to do so. Taking a pass rusher with the No. 5 overall pick is a real possibility for the Lions.
