Pena batted just .209/.324/.350 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 85 games with the Astros. He was signed to a one-year, $2.9 million contract this offseason and could pass through waivers unclaimed, but shouldn't struggle to sign on with another team.
Oh really?
If Pena couldn't hang on with the Lastros, what other team would want to add him to their 25 man roster? He "might" get an offer to become minor league filler for some team or as insurance vs injury, but @age 35, having hit ~the Mendoza line for several years and K-ing @ a prodigious rate, aalong with his homer rate having declined dramatically, and being suited only as a 1B platoon type, even being offered a minor league contract might be a stretch. Have a nice retirement Carlos!!
