"The Astros are getting ready for their move to the American League."
"The team, which will begin play in the AL West in 2013, has agreed to terms with free agent Carlos Pena on a one-year deal, according to sources. Pena, who will make $2.9 million with another $1.4 million in incentives, is expected to share the first base and designated hitter spots with Brett Wallace."

I had guessed that the Astros might have considered ex-Tiger Delmon Young for their FT DH spot, since they are moving to the AL West next season, but they apparently are going to a platoon @ 1B and DH. The '12 ALCS MVP Young just might find himself on the outside looking in next year if no AL team wants him as a FT/PT DH and/or OFer. His OF defense is obviously suspect and lacking, and it is unlikely that any NL teams would have much use for him other than perhaps a PH or less likely a platoon OFer off the bench, and there may be some other options for a PH/UT player available, such as Jim Thome, who has indicated that he still wants to play in MLB next year.
Pena hit a sub-Mendoza Line .197 last season in 160 games, had a pedestrian .682 OPS, Ked 182 times, and he hasn't hit above .250 since 2007. Carlos did hit 17 homers last year...so maybe the Astros are counting on him to help their chick fans dig the AL longball.
