So the Yanks' Posada retired, now the Red Sox Varitek hangs up his catchers mitt, so will the still unsigned FA and former Tiger Pudge Rodriguez be next?

Source: Jason Varitek to retire

Don't know what (lousy) team would sign him now for backup, as he has already played for one of the shittiest teams in MLB, that being the Houston Astros. Maybe the Mets might benefit from his veteran experience, as they only have a couple of ~league-minimum salaried catchers on their roster, being Nickeas (2 years) and Thole (3 years)?

???

At least we wont have to hear that bullshit stat about how Varitek "calls a great game" ever again.

Boston fans used to drive me bananas around all-star time trying to argue who should be backup to Pudge, Varitek or Vmart, when Vmart had the numbers all the Beaneaters would say, "but nobody calls a better game than 'Tek".

and don't forget he called four no hitters and several 1 hitters. Bigf'ndeal..
the pitcher has to make the pitch, locate and change speeds with ball movement. That is in all the comments sections of the stories.
Nothing about his cowardly act of wearing his catchers mask when he had the fight with A-rod. f'n redosx fans are the worlds worst.

For about 20 years I used to cut out pics of redsox and float 'em in the post office mens room toilets....every other day one of the guys would come up stairs and say, clemens, dewey, ortiz, pedro, etc. is floating in stall two. childish for sure, but I sure felt good about it knowing it pissed them off.

I would just looove to take a Big Poopi on Big Papi's pix..haha!!

...and then wipe clean with a clipping of Clemens!!!

:)

Nice KC, lol.

LOL. Doug and Mitch...One of these years I intend to grow up.
Other than Doug, and our older/old friend Tiggs95Danny, I don't think there is another postal lifer on the boards. If you worked there then you know what a cross section of society is there, and how you could goof like that without any problems with management.
I would come up and say, I just took a pedro, or insert redsox players' name.

Can't speak for your PO district in Boston, Ron, but my experiences @ the nationally notorious Royal Oak, MI PO where the term "going postal" originated, gave me an entirely different perspective than those looking from the public's POV, who really don't or can't understand how a postal worker could become a psychopathic murderer. If they only knew what I know all too well now, only then could they understand how that guy was slowly driven to do what he did.

So glad that I am out of that rat-race now, especially with the troubles that the USPS is having due to rapidly declining revenue and FC US Mail volume. Real complicated to explain why the USPS must remain viable, and still exist in one piece. I could easily take several pages up here if I even began to try. I do tend to worry more and more about the financial future security of my PO pension. however.

My brother-in-law worked for the post office in 'Frisco for years and he hated it. Walking up and down those streets must have been a pain.

he put A-Rod in his place which makes him alright in my book...he also dated Heidi Watney (smoking hot)

For me, and many other teams fans without any connection as yankee or redsox fans, vagitek's wearing his catcher's mask during that fight with A-rod was the ultimate act of cowardice. It has been posted in comments all over the internet at various baseball sites, since he announced his retirement, along with rebuttals to the myopic views of sox fans saying he is a hall of fame candidate. Give me a f'n break on that too. Let's see Ted Simmons, Freehan, Thurman, etc. get in before captain snatchface.

Yes, good eye candy for sure, I found it amusing that in his retirement at the spring training park that he came out to speak to gathered media with his wife and children. Heidi is a knockout and from what I see/hear,she she does have a good amount of baseball/redsox acumen, but is still a "home wreckin' Ho" as we say here, and varitek is just one of thousands in pro sports and real life that "lets his little head tell the Big Head what to do".

Never grow up, KC. ;)

never will Tony.

Although I never became a carrier for our region, and passed on the opportunity to work the days shift as one, which would have been better for my sleeping habits than working the graveyard shift, the pay was better by not switching crafts, not "starting over" by being on the bottom of the seniority list , and remaining indoors.

The afternoon shift @ the plant that I worked at was lazy overall, and management/supervision was very lax, as compared to ours. However, we on the graveyard shift never complained about having to finish up their work, prior to and after finishing ours each day, b/c it meant lots of overtime and working one or sometimes even both of our off-days, the second being paid @ a rate of double-time and one-half.

I remember coming to work one night, and noticing that a woman mail-handler who worked afternoons on the dock, had written in black and red perma-marker the words: "Kerri is Marcel's girl" (Marcel being the dock supervisor) all over the work room floor AND the 18-bay dock area too!!. It was on the walls, support posts as well as well over a hundred of canvas-sided mail containers and rolling equipment (the former was obviously very difficult to remove) and on the sides of multi-million dollar machinery. She had to have spent her entire shift doing that. I couldn't help but think about how inept the second-shift management was, to not have caught her in the act, before she defaced almost everything in sight, and got a good laugh out of it.

Of course defacing federal government property is a crime and a felony, and before my shift ended, I found out that the woman had been arrested and taken into custody, by the postal police and agents of the Office of the USPS Inspector General, after she had soon turned herself in at a local police station. Last I heard about her status, she had obtained a lawyer and planned to plead insanity...lol.

When I left that morning, and headed out of the parking lot, I noticed that she also obviously had gotten ahold of a spray paint can, and had done the same thing on the driveway to the facility and part of the lot...heh!!

LMAO. Some Crazy people for sure Doug. That was the good old days.
When I started I was a mailhandler and worked the midnight shift for a year and a half then took the carrier exam. I never got used to tour one and used to stay up in the mornings when I got out and just did stuff during the day. Slept/napped for 3 hours 2/3 times a week and then went in to work with blood shot eyes.
Back then 68/69ish the old timers had their half pints on the carrier desk and a couple had their snubnose guns as well.
Times have changed....
