never will Tony.
Although I never became a carrier for our region, and passed on the opportunity to work the days shift as one, which would have been better for my sleeping habits than working the graveyard shift, the pay was better by not switching crafts, not "starting over" by being on the bottom of the seniority list , and remaining indoors.
The afternoon shift @ the plant that I worked at was lazy overall, and management/supervision was very lax, as compared to ours. However, we on the graveyard shift never complained about having to finish up their work, prior to and after finishing ours each day, b/c it meant lots of overtime and working one or sometimes even both of our off-days, the second being paid @ a rate of double-time and one-half.
I remember coming to work one night, and noticing that a woman mail-handler who worked afternoons on the dock, had written in back andred perma-marker the words: "Kerri is Marcel's girl" (Marcel being the dock supervisor) all over the work room floor AND the 18-bay dock area too!!. It was on the walls, support posts as well as well over a hundred of canvas-sided mail containers and rolling equipment (the former was obviously very difficult to remove) and on the sides of multi-million dollar machinery. She had to have spent her entire shift doing that. I couldn't help but think about how inept the second-shift management was, to not have caught her in the act, before she defaced almost everything in sight, and got a good laugh out of it.
Of course defacing federal government property is a crime and a felony, and before my shift ended, I found out that the woman had been arrested and taken into custody, by the postal police and agents of the Office of the USPS Inspector General, after she had soon turned herself in at a local police station. Last I heard about her status, she had obtained a lawyer and planned to plead insanity...lol.
When I left that morning, and headed out of the parking lot, I noticed that she also obviously had gotten ahold of a spray paint can, and had done the same thing on the driveway to the facility and part of the lot...heh!!
