Without knowing or commenting on whether it's true or not, I think it's safe to say the timing is based on political strategy. Trying to stall until midterm elections is may be a long shot, but trying to get GOP candidates to say things that will lose them votes in the midterm seems like a likely motivation.

It seems just as likely that this leftist activist who scrubbed all her social media to hide all her leftist activism before it was revealed she was the accuser, is lying which makes her and people like Feinstein the scumbags (well, we already know Feinstein is a complete scumbag). I don't think it's so much that we don't care about "these things." In this instance, it's more that case that everything about this accusation reeks of partisan desperation. If we hang Kavanagh out to dry because we must believe all women, no one will ever get appointed. The idea that we're not willing to cut the guy off based on a rather flimsy accusation means that nobody cares is a bit extreme.

He didn't seem to have much trouble believing them then. What's changed? Nah, sorry. Sexual assault or misconduct shouldn't be something that is swept under the rug because some time passed by. We don't do it with theft or murder, why the exception? According to the Department of Justice , 2 out of 3 rapes don't even get reported. If your inclination is to roll your eyes, do mental gymnastics, or spin your tires concerning allegations of rape, that says a lot about you as a person in my opinion. Could a woman/man lie about being sexually assaulted? Sure can. But you could say that about every crime. Again, why do we treat this differently?
