Brett Lawrie has a huge fan

I had a similar reaction to the Fister trade.

Donaldson 12.1
Lawrie 4.8

I have Donaldson as the #1 MLB 3B over the last 3 years. Lawrie is 22nd.

Why would a parent encourage a child to have a scrub as a favorite player?

I saw a ton of Tiger fans wearing Inge jerseys in the past...I have no idea why people have scrubs as their favorite players.

You're kidding me? We even have to root for the guy with better stats, as a child..lol.

I usually enjoy the stats and analysis you post, but this has got me shaking my head.

I mean what parent would encourage their child to believe in Santa Claus or the Toothfairy at a young age either right?

We're talking about a pre-school aged kid here, no room for cynicism.

Children at 6 don't chose their players without influences. And yes, we encourage Santa Claus and Tooth Fairy, but for the obvious reasons. I think your analogy is skewed.

However, you would be questioning the parents of a 6-year old Tiger Fan who had Don Kelly, Phil Coke or Andrew Romine as their favorite player. The girl was 3 years old when Lawrie became an MLB player. He has not been all that spectacular, hence why the A's are rumored to be trading for Zobrist and Yunel Escobar.

When I was 6 I chose Willie Horton, no one else helped me with that. Granted Willie was a better player than Lawrie but don't assume young kids are idiots and can't make their own choices..

I don't really care if a scrub is your favorite player. Gabe Kapler was my favorite Tiger as a 7 year old, I was so pissed when we traded him for Juan Gone, I never cried about it though. I also loved Lindsey Hunter on the Pistons, Cory Schlesinger on the Lions, and Darren McCarty on the Wings, none of them were good.

Seriously, who cares if a not so great player is the favorite of a child? She probably likes him because he is seen on camera smiling a lot or for some other likewise silly reason.

McCarty was a hockey legend.

Darren McCarty was integral in the Wings success. Undeniable.

Yes, but that doesn't mean he was a good player overall. He played his role on the team perfectly and helped us win, but I don't think he was a great player.

I didn't say he was a hall of famer..nor did you. Good was mentioned..he was good.
