I have Donaldson as the #1 MLB 3B over the last 3 years. Lawrie is 22nd.
Why would a parent encourage a child to have a scrub as a favorite player?

I usually enjoy the stats and analysis you post, but this has got me shaking my head.
I mean what parent would encourage their child to believe in Santa Claus or the Toothfairy at a young age either right?
We're talking about a pre-school aged kid here, no room for cynicism.
I don't really care if a scrub is your favorite player. Gabe Kapler was my favorite Tiger as a 7 year old, I was so pissed when we traded him for Juan Gone, I never cried about it though. I also loved Lindsey Hunter on the Pistons, Cory Schlesinger on the Lions, and Darren McCarty on the Wings, none of them were good.
McCarty was a hockey legend.
He's a legend for kicking Lemieux's ass, not for his skills as a player.
Darren McCarty was integral in the Wings success. Undeniable.

Yes, but that doesn't mean he was a good player overall. He played his role on the team perfectly and helped us win, but I don't think he was a great player.
I didn't say he was a hall of famer..nor did you. Good was mentioned..he was good.
