So, just gonna throw this out there. If you're the Tigers......looking for an identity moving forward......do you make a deal for Bryce Harper knowing that it's going to cost you $350M+ over the next ten years??

I would seriously consider trading for him if he were.....

1. Willing to agree to a long term extension BEFORE the trade.
2. Not going to cost the ENTIRE farm system.

The Tigers need bats. Harper is an MVP caliber player who plays hard and isn't trouble off the field. I'm sure it would cost Fulmer, Castellanos and a couple of minor league pitchers......but you simply don't find players like him, available in their prime, very often.

I know he's only 26, going to be 27, but 10 years - that's 10 years he has to get injured like Miggy. And 35m per year. Hell no.

I don't see anyone offering a package even near that for a 55-ish game rental player who is hitting .220. Yes he draws walks and hit home runs. He's a below average defender. Does he make most teams better? Probably. But I don't see anyone willing to surrender that kind of package for him. JD didn't fetch too much last year(I know verdict still out..) and I can guarantee you JD's #'s after the trade last year will be superior to Harper's should he get traded.

I could be wrong, and honestly I hope I am...it would be awesome to follow the rest of the year!!

I agree......i'd only pull a trigger on a Harper deal if he were willing to agree to an extension BEFORE the trade for his was made.

No extension, no deal IMO.

Agreed, I just don't see that happening with unrestricted free agency looming and Scott Boras being his agent. It would probably take 400m for him to agree to something this year.

man, what?s the deal with his every other year splits?

It's odd. That's the problem with trading for him. You'd have to pay him like a superstar....but his numbers simply say he isn't. He's damn good, but he's injury prone and inconsistent as hell.

I know.....and there are 5-6 players I'd rather give that money to before Harper. He's too damn inconsistent.

I'd save my money for Lindor or Ramirez from Cleveland.....they are highly unlikely to be able to keep both. I would NOT give $400M for Harper. He's good, but you're paying an extra $100M for the hype.

Weighing with essentially the same. Harper is a good but not great player. He had one great year where he legitimately deserved the MVP he got. But he's not Mike Trout, who is one of the best players in the game year in and year out. Most years Harper is an all-star caliber player, but that's it. You don't pay 35M for a good but not great player. And also as others have noted, he's not someone you can rely on for a whole year. He's played 139+ three times, and played under 120 three times. It's really hard to get good value out of a guy who misses a third of the season every other year.

NO!!!!!!

That is a terrible idea.

For that kind of money.....I want a guy who's going to play 150+ games and know he's going to produce MVP type numbers (.300, 35, 100 runs, 100 RBI, 100 BB's). You cant count on Harper for the games OR the numbers.

He's worth a lot of money......but to pay him what he/Boras will be asking will KILL any franchise not named the Yankees.

For 400 m's should be able to buy a whole team! No way. Not worth it. Tigers all ready have a big load to carry.

I get the guy is good but not that good. If he gets 40 a year than Mike Trout will get what? 50, 60? The guy has 2 of his past 3 years batting under .250.

Trout is Mickey Mantle. I?ve never seen anyone like him.

Harper is becoming Adam Dunn.
