His son Bruce was a star diver at Ann Arbor pioneer and later at the university of Michigan. He went on to win the silver medal in the 1984 Olympics.

He got drunk and got behind the wheel of a car and killed a couple of people, but they didn't take the silver metal away from him for that.

Ironic. 1981 he was hit by a drunk driver. Every bone in his face was fractured, his left leg broken, the ligaments in his knee torn, his liver was lacerated, he had a depressed skull fracture and his spleen had to be removed..

if you want to get that hammered, move within walking distance of a bar. or live in drinking-friendly big cities where you can take trains or hail cans easily, like NYC or Chicago.
